Miracoil Comparison

Luke Ash

Hi, I'm looking for a king size mattress recommendation. Our current mattress is a Silentnight miracoil supreme (60th anniversary) and is overdue for a replacement. Both my wife and I found this extremely comfortable so looking for something similar or hopefully better!
I am 6'2" and weigh 15 stone, my wife is 5'2" and around 9 stone so a large difference. I have suffered from prolapsed discs in the past due to sport and gym related injuries so I tend to prefer a firmer mattress for support.
Is there anything you would recommend? We recently visited dreams and they recommended an insignia Blenheim however this felt overpriced at £1300, I also noted a previous question on your site where a customer queried this vs a John Lewis mattress and you also suspected this was overpriced.
Kind regards
Luke

Hi Luke,

Many thanks for your enquiry, it is good to see that previous responses are generating interest and that you have sought further clarification.

First of all, we have viewed the details of the current Miracoil Supreme and note that the upholstery is foam on top of the miracoil spring unit, however, it suggests that the comfort is supplied by soft foams, but the comfort rating if firm. This would indicate that the spring unit, which provides the support for your body is very firm, something which we would not recommend for either of you, but more particularly, your wife at 9 stones. With your particular body weights we would recommend a split spring tension, medium for you and firm for your wife. As a matter of interest, we have visited the Dreams website and note that in the Insignia range, the Blenheim is not mentioned. This rings alarm bells for us as it may be a discontinued line that they are trying to offload.

When advising upon a mattress we take into account body weights, preferred feel and budget. The body weights are the most important as these dictate the spring tension, as detailed above. The support from a mattress comes from the spring unit and the comfort is provided by the upholstery layers, of which the current Miracoil Supreme has very little. It is noted that you felt that the Blenheim was overpriced at £1300.00, but as we are no longer able to view this product, it is difficult for us to reaffirm this. Having said that, during our searches we were directed to orthopaedic mattress made by Insignia and the use of the word orthopaedic usually means that the feel is firm, not what we would recommend for either of you, despite the back issue you refer to.

It is not possible for us to make a recommendation in respect of a product made by our competitors because of the lack of published information in respect of the construction and upholstery in terms of GSM (grams per square metre). We are able to direct you to products within our ranges, which we believe will meet your requirements. None of our Latex or Hybrid Foam products can be made to provide a dual tension to suit you both.

Please view Artisan Naturals, which can have the spring tension selected as soft and medium to suit your body weights and has 85% natural upholstery. We trust that the above is of assistance to you, and it you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419, kind regard.
