Hi, my husband and I desperately need a new mattress. My weight varies from 8/9 stone and his from 17/19 stone. I need a mattress suitable as due to surgery I am now @ 37 suffering hot flushes / night sweats etc. Hubby is a front sleeper sometimes back / I am side sometimes back sleeper. I love the pillow top mattresses but after research I don’t think they are a good idea for us. Please can you advise on the best mattress? Max budget £1200 . Thanks x

Hi SJ,

Thanks for your question.

At your body weights you will need a dual tension mattress to get the right support.

You yourself are borderline between a Soft and Medium spring tension. If you prefer a bit more give then choose the Soft. If you want a bit more support then choose the Medium. Your husband is matched with a Firm spring.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Please note that if you want a one piece mattress you will have to choose the split of Medium and Firm in one of our Artisan products. Otherwise, you will have to choose a Zip and Link mattress to have a Soft and Firm.

Our Artisan range of products are traditional pocket sprung mattresses constructed with natural fillings; Ideal for anyone who identifies as a hot sleeper.

As front and side sleepers you should be avoiding anything too soft or too firm in the top layers respectively. As such I'd advise to look at the Artisan Naturals and Artisan Bespoke 004. Both are true medium feeling models in the top layers providing a slight sink into the top layer but not too much. The Artisan Naturals has 85% natural fillings whereas the Bespoke 004 has a full 100% natural fillings. Both models are ideal for hot sleepers.

We would always advise against pillowtop mattresses due to the fact that once the in-built top layer compresses there is nothing you can do to salvage it. We would always recommend a fully turnable mattress because you can then increase the lifespan of it with correct care and maintenance.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
