A cool mattress
Hello.I replaced my very old silent night (ok, but too firm) with a memory foam. But within half hour of laying on it I was sweating and clammy, and put my old one back on. Replaced with a pocket sprung, thinking this would resolve the issue, also letting them remove my old mattress. Big mistake, same problem. I next day took a Stanley knife to it and ripped the topper off, which seemed to be polyester-like and hot to hold in the hand. So I am currently sleeping with a cool air-flow topper, but not doing a very good job. I am a very hot sleeper and hate anything that holds the heat and is clammy to the feel, so am after the best mattress to keep me cool.
Looking through your website/ Q&A's etc it seems the Artisan Natural range may be what I am looking for? What would you recommend please?
I am a little over 9 stone in weight, 9' 8" in height. This will be a double mattress. The base is wooden slatted, 3 inch slats with 2 inch gaps. Thanks.
Hi Jason Winterburn
Thanks for your question,
I'm sorry to hear you've experienced these issues, hopefully, I will be able to help.
Natural fibres are the best quality of mattress components that you can use. They are more breathable, responsive and durable than any synthetic counterparts. Our Artisan Range would be best suited to you to assist with heat retention and being a warm sleeper.
Body weight determines the spring tension you require, as shown in the table below.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
From there your sleeping habits/personal preference will then determine how you would like the mattress to feel in the comfort layers. This is where you will achieve the feel you are looking for (soft/medium/firm). Do you know if you have a preference for a soft, medium or firm?
If you do not, I would advise to go out and try the;
Vispring Devonshire - Soft in upper layers - Comparable with the Artisan Luxury
Vispring Regal Superb - True medium in upper layers - Comparable with Artisan Bespoke 004
Vispring Herald - Firm in the upper layers - Comparable with the Artisan Bespoke
Once you have tried these, please give me a call with your personal preference and I will be able to advise you further.
I'd advise boarding over the base with a thin layer of mdf/ply so as to create a uniform platform for the mattress to sit. Solid slats do have the advantage over sprung slats as a better surface for all pocket sprung mattresses. The thing to remember is that a pocket sprung mattress requires a flat even surface in order for the mechanics of the individual springs to work with the sleeper.
I hope that helps and if you have any further questions please get back in touch on 0161 413 2864 or info@localhost.
