Whether change base as well as mattress?

My husband and I have had our bed for around 9 years. The mattress is much less firm than it was and is almost what could be described as soggy. If we were to purchase a new mattress would you recommend we purchase a new base as well?

I have been suffering from increased back problems in recent months and I am concerned that the bed is not helping.

I would be grateful for your advice. Thank you

Hi Alison,

Thank you for your enquiry. There is no need to replace your base when purchasing a new mattress if there is nothing physically wrong with it.

A platform divan base may dip on the top, in which case it would need replacing. As long as the top is flat and the base doesn't make any noise when getting in or out of bed or when turning over in the night then will be fine to put a new mattress on.  This is also true of a sprung base, whether it be a springs/" class="" >pocket spring or Bonnel coil type.

If you are not getting enough support from your mattress, this could cause back pain. When looking for a new mattress you should consider a few things. Your body weight(s), the spring tension is determined solely by an individuals body weight to give them the correct level of support.  Your comfort preferences and sleeping habits, this determines which upholstery layers would be the most suitable for you. We don't recommend anything too firm for side sleepers even if your comfort preference is for a firm mattress, this is because firm upholstery can cause pressure pains in the shoulders, hips and knees. Likewise, we do not recommend soft upholstery for front sleepers because this can cause the lower back to over arch causing lower back pain.

I hope this is helpful and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards
Michaela
