I currently have a medium to firm mattress that's causing pain as I sleep predominantly on my left side. Which would be the best mattress for me please?

Hi Barbara,

Thank you for your question.

There is nothing worse than having pain in shoulders and hips when you are trying to get a good nights sleep.  Hopefully we will be able to help you choose the correct mattress for your requirements.

As you are predominantly a side sleeper, you should not be sleeping on anything that is too firm and your current mattress would seem to be a tad too firm for you.  If your mattress isn’t really suitable for sleeping on your side then you can be left with frequent shoulder, neck, and back pain. This is particularly true for low end mattresses which simply don’t have enough fillings to support side sleepers, which is why knowing what the gsm of the fillings inside the mattress is essential when looking for a new mattress.

In order for us to recommend the correct mattress for your needs, we would need to know body weights, heights and preferred feel and also the type of mattress that you are looking for.   The reason behind asking for this information, is that when choosing a mattress, you need to look for the correct support which is dictated by body weight and then the overall feel from the top layers which create the comfort.   I have included here a link to an article on our website which explains the reasoning behind having the correct mattress for a side sleeper which I hope you will find interesting.

If you are looking to purchase a pocket sprung mattress, we have two ranges of these types of mattresses.  Our Origins Range contain man made fillings whereas our Artisan Range contain natural fillings.   As you are sleeping on a mattress that has a medium to firm feel, I would recommend looking at a mattress that contains more overall medium fillings which means that the mattress will feel neither too soft nor too firm.   This should then alleviate any problems with pressure point pain in shoulders and hips.

In the Origins Range I would suggest looking at our Origins Pocket 1500 and in the Artisan Range, our Artisan Naturals.  Both of these mattresses are our best sellers due to the fact that they do give an overall medium feel from the top upholstery layers.

However, as explained above, due to the additional information required from you, it would be beneficial for you to speak to one of our friendly team, who will be able to give you more advice with regard to a suitable mattress which will meet your needs.  Please call our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind regards Julie
