Gabriel

I'm looking at the Hastens 2000 T mattress and Savoir No 2 but am wondering how to compare the two?

Which one would you prefer and which is higher quality?

Thanks

Hi Gabriel.

Thanks for getting in touch about these two world-class mattresses.  We really are going to be splitting hairs here as we are reviewing two of the worlds finest mattress models available.

Lucky you if you're in the market to buy one of them! It's the stuff that most bed connoisseurs dream of! Both of these high-end mattresses come in 3 different spring tensions depending on your body weight. Like all high-end mattress craftsmanship this should be standard. More on that with our video guide below if you're unsure.

So bodyweight is not an issue with either of these models, they can be customised like our range to your exact support requirements. The biggest comparison basis here in the natural upholstery fillings and mattress construction techniques. This is where you will be making your decision on which mattress - either the Savoir No 2 and Hastens 2000T - is the best bed for you.

Savoir & Hastens Prices:

The first thing to look at is the cost, we're talking serious high-end mattresses here.

All hand made and 100% Natural fibre. Hastens 2000T Retails at around £23,000. Savoir No 2 Mattress Retails at between £20,000-£25,000 This is for the mattress and bed base systems.

There are plenty of tweaks and customisations, that in Savoir's case can increase this price considerably. After all, these are the worlds finest beds! Let''s have a look in more detail at the two models under the covers.

What's surprising is that neither mattress brand gives you the exact upholstery breakdown or GSM. Whilst we usually frown on this, having seen Savoirs mattresses being made these natural fibres layers are bountiful and of the very highest quality.

Hastens 2000T Mattress Specification

The Hastens mattress gives the following details.

  • Hästens 2000T is a continental bed defined by its elegance and comfort, featuring exclusive details in aluminum.
  • An impressive pliability comes from a unique layering method using our finest natural materials.
  • Separated layers of horsehair alternate with cotton and wool, allowing the horsehair to maintain its springiness and elasticity and move in different directions for a unique user experience.
  • Mattress: A-lyx horsehair, hand-teased, 4 layers Cotton and wool, 6 layers
  • Base: Flax, 2 layers Cotton and wool, 2 layers Horsehair, 1 layer
  • The 2000T is engineered with not just one, but two, unique spring systems. These work in conjunction with an underlying Bonnell spring system to ensure every part of your body gets the support it needs.
  • The 2000T has a slightly firmer character yet remains gentle and pliable. Side stitching and distinct, classic piping on the mattress define the bed’s elegant shape, providing comfort and stability

This mattress has a firmer feel in the comfort layers with the horsehair giving a lively push back to this mattress. As Hasten's use multiple layers in their mattress construction it gives the beds a true deep progressive comfort.

It features a dual-layer of springs separated between different upholstery layers, rather than springs laid just on top of springs.  The one niggle for us is the Hastens base which uses a Bonnel spring system. Usually associated with entry-level mattresses. Now Bonnell springs in bases are perfectly acceptable and up until a few years ago we used to offer a Bonnel sprung upholstered hand made divan. However, with calico pocket springs you really can't get a finer spring support system which is why we use them in all our Artisan Bed Bases.

We're picking at hairs but Savoir use an hourglass spring that is 'star lashed' which is a really tricky technique used to tie together the springs in their base which we find gives them the edge in terms of technical detail and 'ohh la la' factor!.

The Savoir No 2 is hand made in the UK in London. Savoir beds are most famously known as creating the beds for the Savoy when they first opened, still found in their high-end hotel suites to this day!

The finishing and hand detailing are exquisite on the Savoir range. Their star lashed base using hourglass springs is a real exceptional touch. This mattress provides a soft sink and medium support for the sleeper. Each mattress is hand signed by the maker when it is ready to be dispatched. 80 hours go into making the mattress and base.

Which mattress to choose?

What we would say is that spending £20,000+ on a new mattress should not be taken lightly. The service levels from Savoir and Hastens is second to none so definitely book an appointment at their flagship stores to try these models out.

Alternatives to the Savoir or Hastens Mattress Range

Whilst our mattress selection may not be in the same price bracket as Savoir and Hastens we do however use a number of the same materials, the same springs and mattress detailing.

Our Artisan mattress range are all hand made, hand side stitched and feature a mix of the worlds finest natural fibres. Our mattresses take around 13 hours to hand-make and the bases around 5 hours. It retails around £3145 for a kingsize. The equivalent to about 8 mattresses for the same price as one of the above models!

Take a look at our Artisan Sublime as a comparative model which features a huge 5400GSM of plant-based and animal natural fibres along with its handmade pocket sprung mattress base.

The springs are available in 3 spring tensions and are vanadium coated before being stitched into calico cases. These springs are then hand-tied together by a skilled spring technician. The Artisan Sublime is an extra deep soft sink mattress with medium support. Ensuring the most dreamy luxury sleep possible.
