Latex versus Tempur

Sean Randell

My partner and I are looking for a new mattress. She is 10 stone, I am 13.5 stone.
We first slept on a Tempur mattress on a recent holiday and really liked the experience. We went to try out the Cloud 27 recently instore and were very impressed.
We are looking at a budget of 2,000 to 2,500.
Reading the numerous articles on your site you seem to be quite dismissive of the memory foam options and I'm interested to find out what better options are for that kind of price range.
I really like the firm sinking feeling that the Tempur mattresses have over pocket sprung mattresses and am interested in your Latex options but find it difficult to make such a large purchase without trying the bed out.
What would you recommend?

Hi Sean,

Thanks for your question.

We compare our own Hybrid 4 with the Tempur Cloud 27. Whilst we compare with it please note that it is only a comparison of the feel rather than a direct like for like purchase. The Hybrid 4 is our softest foam mattress and at your body weights will give you both a medium to soft feel overall.

Latex mattresses will give you a similar sink in sensation to memory foam as well the Tempur Cloud 27 but latex generally being a firmer material gives a more progressive sink bouncing back to it's original shape a lot quicker.

We compare our Fusion range with the Dunlopillo range that can be found in stores such as Furniture Village, Harrods, House of Fraser or And So To Bed.

I'd advise you to look at our Fusions 5 and 3. Both have a medium density core mattress but the Fusion 3 comes with an additional and completely detachable latex topper. This will give you an additional comfort layer to sink into before you hit the core mattress.

The Fusion 5 compares with the Dunlopillo Diamond and the Fusion 3 compares with the Dunlopillo Royal Sovereign. This would again give you something to gauge it off and we'd always recommend trying the comparison models before purchasing as latex is quite an acquired taste.

Don't forget as well that with us being an online only retailer this is the main reason we offer our 60 day love it or return it guarantee. This is a no quibble policy meaning that if you don't get on with the mattress for any reason you can return it for a full refund or utilise the one time exchange.
