Hi, i recently bought a Hypnos Cashmere king size mattress as a long term investment in my aching back and neck. However, I seem to be totally overheating and suffering night sweats which could be down to age but I'm not having as comfortable a sleep as I'd hoped. I love hotel beds with the sinking feeling and rest incredibly well in them. My partner is 6ft 14 stone and I'm 6ft and 13 stone but I do like to spread out on the bed, mostly on my side with knee up towards my chest and no pillow. Do you think the hybrid 7 you have in grade c would be suitable for me and my partner? Im going superking as my partner constantly complains about my sprawling out. many thanks in advance

Hi Susie,

Sorry to hear your suffering in both heat and pain with your Hypnos mattress. Firstly the Hypnos cashmere is an orthopaedic mattress which means it's incredibly firm. Especially given your weights! No wonder you're suffering this is really not a suitable mattress for you, especially if you like that soft sink feeling. The advice used to be that for any form of back problems you needed a firm mattress but that is a misnomer.  Unless you like sleeping on concrete an orthopaedic mattress with a 1.94 mm wire diameter is simply rock hard.

Spring Tension Wire diameter (Gauge) Weight Range
Soft 1.2mm Bespoke Tension (Please Call)
Medium 1.4mm Upto 16 stone
Firm 1.6mm 16 stone plus
Extra Firm / Orthopaedic 1.9mm 20 stone plus

Given you're getting warm already I really wouldn't recommend any hybrid foams, because all though they are cooler than their memory foam counterparts, they still retain more heat than say a traditional mattress. Regardless of your age you probably don't want to opt for a material that will be warm compared to one that won't!

I'd suggest you look at our Origins Comfort 1000 in a superking zip and link, it is our softest mattress in this range and for your weight will still provide medium support but with a far softer top layer. It will be cooler than the hybrid 7, cheaper, and with it being a zip and link will vastly reduce the transference and movement for you and your partner. I would then advise, that given its cheaper than the Hybrid 7 you buy say a decent soft wool topper or something to give the extra sink you need if needed. Don't be put off because it is our starter model, it is a fantastic mattress, it simply can't be beaten for that price point and its components. We only advise on which models are suitable rather than upselling the more expensive model, which we find rather offensive when we experience it in retail ourselves!

You can then say experiment with this, for example, you may find in the summer you don't need a topper when it's warm and in winter it may be a nice bonus. However, you can try the mattress first to see if it is at the softness you require and then if you want more add a topper.

I trust that this helps, but if you have any further queries or would like more specific advice please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.  Our office hours are 8 am – 8 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am – 4 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Kind Regards
