Mattress tension and makeup.

I have moved out of my wonderful king sized ,2200 pocket sprung Relyon
bed because my snoring keeps my partner awake.I purchased a "bespoke"Grandeur,Staples 2250 softer mattress in a small double size as I was reliably informed it was a suitable replacement.Months later with the option to return having passed I now wake regularly with lower back ache I never had with my much softer Relyon.I am a 6ft 4 ,15 stone male who has just wasted a lot of money,it was not explained to me on purchase that smaller sized matresses effect tension even with many springs or that geltech tops can feel softer to a completely natural makeup.
I now need advice before I waste another pile of money,I need a soft but quality mattress ,my old bed felt almost bouncy when I lay on it.
Any advice??

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your question.

I can only find a little information regarding the Grandeur Staples but I can see that it is a pillowtop mattress.

Pillowtops can drastically reduce the lifespan of a mattress as they are only one sided mattresses. As soon as they compress you are then stuck with a flat piece of fabric on top of the mattress, which can cause comfort issues.

At your body weight you are matched to a Medium springs-the-arguments-2/">spring tension. This will give you the correct level of support from within the mattress itself.
Once this has been established, all you then need to consider is how you want the mattress to feel in it's top layers, also known as the comfort layers.

The base that the mattress is being used on can make a big difference to the overall feel.

As such, if a pocket sprung base is being combined with the new mattress then I would recommend our Artisan Naturals model. This mattress is made from 85% natural fibres and has an overall medium feel in the comfort layers. The sprung base here, however, will soften the overall feel of it.

Alternatively, if you're going to be using either a solid or a slatted bed frame then I would advise our Artisan Bespoke 002. This has 100% natural fibres in it's construction and also has a dual layer of springs. As such this gives it a bouncier and springier feel. This mattress is more responsive as a result and has more of a sink in feeling to it.

Due to both of these models being constructed from natural fibres and materials they are also cooler feeling.

Both of these mattresses are also fully turnable and as a result the lifespan can easily be increased by flipping and rotating them once a month. Please see the link here for our advice on mattress care and maintenance.

I hope this has answered your question fully but if you do have any further queries, please don't hesitate to contact us on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards Gary
