Mattress equivalent to vispring sublime superb
Hi guys,
Looking for a mattress to replace one that's just too firm and we've been putting up with for the past couple of years. We're both about 11-12 stone each so expect a medium tension mattress should suit us well.
Three questions from us
1. I notice you mentioning that the Artisan Bespoke 002 would be a close match for the vispring tiara. Would you also say that the bespoke 002 mattress would be the closest you have to the sublime superb? I'm after the cocoon like feeling the sublime superb gives while ensuring that I'm well supported. The only issue I have (apart from the price!) is the roll off that Vispring seems have with for all of their mattresses. This, (alongside the rave reviews) brings me to your website.
A read through vispring's website seems to suggest that the additional benefit the sublime has over the tiara is the inclusion of silk and mohair but from my research it seems to help purely in comfort - is this something that you plan on including in future iterations of mattresses? Also I notice that silk and mohair only seems to help with comfort rather than support which brings me to the next question.
2. Is there any way (apart from the use of a topper) for us to get the springy feel of solatex on a mattress made from natural fibres? I've tried the Hypnos 1600 deluxe and some of the hybrid tempurs and while I find them lovely, comfortable and supportive to sleep on (I find that they do the best job supporting my lower back without the dreaded deep sink in), they tend to get warm very quickly and just can't replicate the breathability one would expect from natural fibres. The obvious solution would be to get one of your latex/memory foam toppers on top of one of the artisan mattresses, but wouldn't that be ruined from the use of an electric blanket?
3. Does the position in which you sleep affect the tension of mattress you should buy? For example, while we have similar weights, I sleep on my stomach and so tend to prefer a firmer mattress whereas my other half much prefers something softer given that he sleeps on his side. I'm assuming a small double size mattress is just too small to have separate tensions on each side so am interested to see whether the only option we have is to both just get used to a medium tension between us.
Sorry for the goldilocks moment, but am trying my best to find the perfect solution to my 8h a day!
Hi Anjali,
Thank you for your question.
The mattress that we make in our Artisan Range which is nearest to the Vi-Spring Sublime is our Artisan Bespoke 002 although it really is only similar because of the double layer of springs. Our Artisan Bespoke 002 has a medium feel in the upholstery layers, those are the layers which you sleep on which are on top of the springs, meaning that the overall feel is neither too soft nor too firm. You would not have that cocoon-like feeling as you would not sink into the mattress because it is more of a medium feel.
We put a firmer spring around the outside edge of our mattresses to combat that feeling of rolling off the mattress.
Our Artisan Naturals has a layer of mohair within the mattress and I attach a link to this mattress for you to have a read of. This mattress also has a medium feel from those upholstery layers but has one layer of pocket springs.

As far as using a topper on the mattress is concerned, using a 100% natural Latex topper is fine but we would not really recommend adding a memory foam topper as you are then putting a manufactured foam on top of natural fillings.
Whilst the position of your sleeping does have an effect on your choice of mattress, this is more to do with the fillings than the spring tension. The springs in a mattress need to move with your body weights in order to give you that support. At your body weights, we would recommend a medium spring tension.

Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
You are quite right in that if you sleep on your stomach that you should have a firmer upholstery layer and stay away from soft upholstery as this would not give you enough support, therefore, causing back problems. If you sleep on your side then you should not sleep on a mattress that has firm upholstery layers as this can cause pressure point pain.
We are unable to provide a dual tension in a small double mattress but a medium tension is sufficient for you both and will give you the correct support.
We hope the above is of assistance to you but please do not hesitate to contact our Office on 0161 437 4419 to speak to an Advisor.
Kind regards Julie
