A customer asked

I am seeking to replace a single size Vispring Supreme Bedstead Medium Mattress which I have perhaps used for too many years which now sags a little in the middle. I now experience more hip pain. As an interim measure at present, I am currently using a Silentnight 1200 Mirapocket medium mattress which feels just marginally too firm - but only marginal. I am 76kg 6ft senior male. I dislike hot beds as they make my legs kick out. The mattress would be on a bedstead with less than 70mm between the slats but I could alter the gap
My search is confined to pocket sprung. Your website leads me to a natural fibre - perhaps the Artisan bespoke 004 or maybe the Artisan Naturals but I would welcome your advice. Selection of the correct type is the governing factor.

Hi There,

Thank you for your enquiry. Both the Artisan Naturals and the Artisan Bespoke 004 have a similar feel in the comfort layers which are a medium, the difference being that the Artisan Naturals has 85% natural fibres and the Artisan Bespoke 004 has 100% natural fibres.  Both of these mattresses would suit your prefered feel. For hip pain, we would normally recommend something that is soft in the upholstery to cushion the boney parts of your body. The use of a mattress topper may aid your hip pain if you opt for a medium mattress by softening the upholstery layer.  This would not make the comfort as soft feeling as a soft upholstery.

Pocket springs have a different gauge to the continuous spring you are currently using which may be why your Silentnight mattress is too firm.  We would pair you with a medium spring tension at your body weight.

All of our mattresses are suitable for all bases but with slatted bases, we would recommend a barrier such as an old blanket or duvet to protect the underside of your mattress from indentations from the slats.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards
Michaela
