your equivalents of some tried and tested sleepeezee's
hello and thanks massively in advance for your time and help.
I'll stay factual to try to make this as painless as possible. question at the end --
I'm male, 42. 6ft 2. float between 15-16 stone.
I sleep on my back, sides, front.
I get baking hot during sleep.
I fidget during sleep.
neck pain one side.
partner, is female. 40. 5ft 8. around 11 stone.
sleeps on her side and back.
body Temp standard (cold winter hot summer)
mother of 5
lower and mid back pain.
wakes up quite easily with my movement.
currently have a 10year old Ikea sultan (pocket sprung version, foam top).
we liked firm when purchased. but with age we've drifted to ''sink a bit then stop'' support.
Sultan is now tired but still firm. not helping pains.
we like:
-very strong edges, as we often sit on them dressing.
-strong edges for edge sleeping with no 'roll off' feeling
-feeling cool
-slight sink then stability
we need:
-spine alignment for her side sleeping
-spine alignment for his back and front sleeping
we dislike:
-bouncing feeling
-one persons movement transferring to the other
-beds that sag, pillow tops
budget:
between 1000-2000 superking.
can't afford ziplock or different side firmness
mattresses we've tried so far:
simba hybrid Luxe - marketed as firm, felt like a cheap empty 1980s hostel mattress
sleepeezee Jessica 1800 - with reviews and marketing we thought this was the one. felt doughy not firm. felt like the surface was 'eating' us.
Benson's exclusive sleepeezee regency kew - felt very good. much to our tastes. very much liked that it was bamboo not wool as I think it would be cool but less sag. double sided for longevity
sleepeezee centurial 01 - felt very very. nice. couldn't decide if we preferred the medium or firm. was put off by the fact it's only one sided.
sleepeezee centurial 02 - felt a bit buoyant but tolerable. maybe 6000 springs is the issue. double sided is the attractive point. highest end of our superking budget
yet to try:
sleepeezee perfectly British regent - double sided, no pillow top and not too many springs. price in range. possibly 'the one'
my question is this -- what in your own range could be suitable? what other mattresses maybe in Harrison spinks or hypnos, but more importantly which of your own mattresses would be an equivalent to the ones from other brands that felt good, or suit all of the mentioned needs above?
thanks so so much if you ever get round to answering this!
Craig
Hi Craig,
Thank you for your question. We do not have any mattresses that would compare to the mattresses you tried within our range due to the construction methods used in different mattresses. For instance, we do not use micro HD springs as they offer nothing in support; you can press them together with your finger and thumb, but they do take up space where more luxurious upholstery layers could be. Some of our mattresses in our Artisan range are comparable to the overall feel of some Vispring models.
When trying mattresses in showrooms, it is important to note that these mattresses have already been softened by many potential customers trying them day after day. A new mattress will always feel firmer. Also when there are two different 'comfort' options available for each model, these are different spring tensions, which should be based on your height and weight to provide the correct level of support. A lot of retailers will describe the comfort of a mattress based on the spring tension, however, it is the upholstery layers on top of the springs that determine how the mattress feels, and not the spring tension. At your heights and body weights, we would pair you both with the medium spring tension to provide you with the correct support. This spring tension supports body weights up to 17 stone; neither of you weighs enough to activate a firm spring tension, which means you will not be supported correctly.
| Spring Tension | Wire diameter (Gauge) | Weight Range |
|---|---|---|
| Soft | 1.2mm | Bespoke Tension (Please Call) |
| Medium | 1.4mm | Upto 16 stone |
| Firm | 1.6mm | 16 stone plus |
| Extra Firm / Orthopaedic | 1.9mm | 20 stone plus |
I have been looking at the Sleepeezee mattresses that you have tried on a lot of different sites to try to obtain as much information on each as possible. There are no GSMs given for any of the upholstery fibres, which makes it difficult to determine how the mattress will feel, for instance, 300 grams per square meter will feel firmer than 1200, or how much actual natural fibres you would be getting with each mattress.
Sleepeezee:
Jessica 1800 - This is a one sided mattress that can be rotated only. It has a layer of soft polyester on the top of Platinum breathable fibre. These layers sit on a deep Staycool Gel layer (no density given), followed by a layer of pocket springs. There is no spring tension given, however, one site describes the support as orthopaedic, which are extra-firm tension springs. This is currently retailing at £1499 for a super kingsize at Mattress Next Day (Sept 25).
Regency Kew - This is a two sided mattress that will need to be turned over regularly. Please follow any instructions given for care and maintenance. The top layer of this mattress is Bamboo which is a soft natural fibre, followed by a layer of soft polyester. These soft layers sit on a layer of high-density foam. This mattress has a layer of 1000 mini springs on each side with 800 pocket springs for support. This is described as having a firm feel. Available in medium and firm tensions. This mattress is currently retailing at £1999 for a super kingsize at Dreams (Sept 25).
Perfectly British Regent - This is a double sided mattress. It has a top layer of wool and silk, the second layer is wool, with the third layer of wool and cotton. There is a layer of mini springs and pocket springs. Again, there is no spring tension given, however, one site describes the support as orthopaedic, which are extra-firm tension springs. Some sites describe this mattress as soft, whilst others say medium. This mattress is currently retailing at £1449 for a super kingsize at My Next Mattress (Sept 25).
Centurial 01 - This is a one sided mattress. The only information available is that there is a layer of wool and alpaca with some sites including wool. Some sites say it is available in medium and firm tensions; however, there is no option to select the springs. There is a total of 4500 springs, however, these will not all be supportive pocket springs. Some will be mini springs or micro HD springs. Most sites agree that this mattress has a medium feel, although given the soft fibre upholster layers, these may be supported by micro HD springs to give that overall feel. This mattress is currently retailing at £1599 for a super kingsize at My Next Mattress (Sept 25).
Centurial 02 - The descriptions I have found for this mattress are very similar for the Centurial 01, but with two sides, which allows for the spring count to increase to 6000. This mattress is currently retailing at £1799 for a super kingsize at My Next Mattress (Sept 25).
Simba
Hybrid Luxe - This mattress combines natural fibres, Simbatex and micro HD springs and is available with different spring tensions. Some describe this as a medium overall feel, whilst others say medium to firm. It does have a zip-off cover that is machine washable. This mattress is currently retailing at £1999.99 at Benson's For Beds (Sept 25).
Given your sleep positions, I would recommend a medium level of comfort which will provide cushioning for your shoulders and hips whilst sleeping on your side but the more supportive layers underneath will prevent you from sinking in too much when sleeping on your back or front. Natural fibres provide the coolest sleep surface and help you to regulate your body temperature. They are also more durable, which means the lifespan of the mattress will be longer. From our range, I would recommend the Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 which is constructed with 85% natural fibres. We utilise two rows of firmer springs and hand side stitching for edge support. This mattress retails at £2245 for a super kingsize, (Sept 25), although I do understand that this may be out of budget.

All mattresses settle where you lie the most. even foam mattresses, and this is not a fault but signs that the upholstery fibres are behaving as they should. When a mattress is made, all the upholstery fibres are completely flat and level with the piping. Adding the piping and the tufts compacts the fibres and creates the domed area. As you sleep and move around on the mattress the upholstery layers soften and flatten out. As we are creatures of habit, we tend to sleep in the same position on the mattress, the upholstery layers in this area settle, but leave the surrounding upholstery layers like new. This looks like the mattress has sagged or that there are raised areas on the surface of the mattress, especially in the larger sizes like kingsize and super kingsize where no one sleeps in the middle. By turning the mattress over on a regular basis and utilising the whole of the sleep surface, ie if you are in bed on your own, then sleep in the middle, or if you are reading or watching TV in bed on your own, then sit in the middle, this will help to even out the settlement of the upholstery layers. The upholstery fibres should eventually be flat and level with the piping once again, but this can take a few years.
I hope this helps and if you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind Regards
Michaela
