An Icon Mattress from Carpetright?
What a fab website you have here, we have been looking at beds and are totally blown away by the choice and different specs out there.
We recently visited Carpetright and tried out a bed called Icon 2000 (A 27.5cm mattress is topped with 7.5cm of classic memory foam, all supported by 2000 high-density foam-encased pocket springs.) Now i must admit the bed was comfy but we have never heard of Icon beds and do not know if this bed is worth the asking price £999...
I would like to ask you in your experience does this seem like a good buy and have you ever heard of Icon beds.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Annabelle,
Thank you for your question. Miracoil is a cage sprung unit whereas the Mirapocket is individual pocket springs. Having looked at this mattress I would not recommend the spring tension for someone of your body weight. It has firm springs which you do not weigh enough to compress so the only support you would get from this mattress would be from the upholstery. We would pair you with a medium spring to give you the correct level of support.

As someone who gets hot at night, I would not recommend this mattress for you as the upholstery layer is memory foam. This requires body heat to be able to mould to your body which it retains making some customers overheat. The coolest sleep surface is provided by natural fibres. I assume by your choice of mattress that your comfort preference is firm. In our natural fibre Artisan range, the Artisan Bespoke has the firmest upholstery but if you are a side sleeper this may cause you pressure pains in your shoulders, hips or knees. Have a look at the Artisan 1500 which the firmer medium feel upholstery is constructed with 53% natural fibres and the spring tension can be selected to suit your body weight.
I hope this is helpful and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards

Hi Chris.
Indeed it is a minefield, but not completely one that is insurmountable.
As far as I am aware, the product you mention under the branding of 'Icon' used by Carpetright is a product from Breasley Memory Foam.
For means of comparison you would be wise to do your like for like comparisons against their own Salus range of products.
Doing comparisons against any memory foam products is incredibly easy.
The points you need to assess are: The general overall build.
In this case it is a FEPS (Foam Encapsulated Pocket Springs) unit Read More Here.
The depth of the Memory Foam used.
In this case you have correctly identified it as being 7.5cm.
There is no doubt about it you will be able to source a similar constructed Memory Foam product for considerably less.
Invariably the bulk of all Memory Foam (as a component) comes from British Vita.
Mass produced pocket springs in a spunbond casement can also be deemed to be generally alike.
The foam that is used in all mattresses (in this case as the encapsulation unit) will again be invariably from British Vita (under the Reflex trade mark) but there are a handful of other foam converters who also supply many manufacturers - I personally would not be too concerned about any UK foam supplier.
From our Origins range you could take a look at the Origins Pocket Latex 1500 mattress, which has 1500 individual pocket springs and a 6cm layer of Talalay Latex, which gives the same moulding sensation that memory foam offers but without retaining as much heat.

As a final bit of advice I really would go to a High end store in order for you to see what a quality traditional built mattress feels like.
The price tags you see may be cause for a sharp intake of breath but like the model above - there are alternatives for much less.
