Thanks for contacting us with regard to the Burgess Beds New Sandringham Mattress and the Igel Advance 2050 mattress.

It can be very difficult for us to make a comparison to mattresses made by other Companies other than Vi Spring as most Bed Manufacturers do not disclose the GSM or grams per square metre of the fibres contained within the mattress which is a very important part of mattress buying as this confirms the quality of the mattress.

The Burgess Beds Sandringham mattress contains the following but does not tell me what the amounts of fibres are :-

When researching mattresses, it is important that you not only receive the correct level of support but also the correct level of comfort.   The internal spring unit is there to provide support and that support is dictated by body weight and height whereas all the fibres or fillings which are on top of those springs provide the comfort and this is dictated by how you sleep.   A side sleeper would require either a soft comfort or a medium depending on their preference whereas a back sleeper requires a medium level of comfort and a front sleeper requires a firmer level of comfort.

The IGel 2050i is a memory foam mattress with pocket springs and would provide a totally different sleeping sensation to that of a traditional tufted mattress.   With memory foam, you sink in to the top layers and it has a molding effect whereas with a traditional mattress, you sleep on it rather than in it.   Memory foam is also notorious for heat retention as it requires your body heat to make it responsive.

 

 

It is very difficult for us to advise which mattress would be best suited for you as it depends on how you want that mattress to feel and whether you prefer a mattress with some natural fibres, which do provide the coolest sleeping surface, or whether you do like a memory foam type mattress.   From our point of view, you probably would be better with a natural fibre mattress as natural fibres also provide longevity.

We do make natural fibre traditional pocket sprung mattresses within our Artisan Range and as the above two mattresses you are looking at seem to provide an overall medium comfort and support, I would recommend looking at either the Artisan Naturals which contains 85% natural fibres together with 1600 calico encased pocket springs or the Artisan Bespoke 004 which contains 100% natural fibres again with calico encased pocket springs.   Calico encased pocket springs are the best springs you can possibly have inside a mattress as they are very breathable and also provide a much more consistent surface for the comfort layers made of fibres and upholstery to sit on.
