Conical pocket springs

Sarah

Hi there, what are your thoughts on the performance of a mattress containing conical pocket springs, given their size and the fact that they are sandwiched between two layers of memory foam? Would they actually form a function or are they just used as a marketing tool as an "extra"? I suppose a bit like a mattress with a pillow top!
I'm also concerned about the sag effect after time.
Many thanks,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your enquiry.

We presume from your description that you are looking at the Simba mattress. We cannot see that the use of their patented conical springs brings more to the table than standard pocket springs. The reference to horizontal movement is somewhat of a red herring as standard pocket springs provide a degree of horizontal movement in addition to the vertical movement which applies to all springs.

Memory foam is not recommended because it is heat retentive and slow to return to shape, meaning that when you move during the night it can feel like you are climbing out of a hole. Although there is a picture on their site showing the different layers, it does not specify the thickness or density etc of those layers, which makes if difficult to provide an opinion as to performance and quality.

Please view the products in our Fusion range (latex) and the Hybrid range (foam), which may be viewed as an alternative to the Simba, but do not contain springs. The Origins Pocket Latex 1500 does, however, contain latex and pocket springs and may be a suitable product for you, but without full details of your body weights, preferred feel and budget, it is difficult to make a specific recommendation.

If you wish to discuss our products in more detail and receive specific advice as to the suitability of one of them for you, please call our office on 0161 437 4419, kind regards.
