Is a divan base better than a bedstead

Thank you for your enquiry.   Bedsteads are all frames that the mattress sits on and nearly all use slatted bases. The majority of bedstead bases will have some form of footboard and combined headboard. They are usually multi-piece frames that come with a hundred page leaflet translated into a dozen languages to tell you which of the three hundred bolts and screws you need to set it up. They are intensive in terms of assembly. They do however provide you with the option to go all out on style with your bed base, but you may have to board over the slats with MDF or Plywood if the space between the slats is greater than 3 inches.

We have two different types of divan bases, the Origins Platform, the Contemporary Platform, the Ottoman (which is also a platform with extra storage)and the Artisan base that you can have pocket springs or bonnel coil.  A platform base is suitable for all mattress including all foam based mattresses such as our Hybrid and Fusion ranges.  They will slightly firm up the overall feel of the mattress whereas a sprung base will soften the feel of your mattress and extend it's longevity.

The depth of our Origins models (our synthetic fibre range) is 13 inches (32.5 cm) and the depth of our Artisan range (our natural fibre range) is 12 inches (30 cm).  Natural fibres provide the coolest sleep surface.  Your personal preference in comfort should dictate which model would be more suitable for yourself and your body weight will dictate the spring tension.

Re the height: 45cm is below a standard size combination.  Dependant on which mattress you choose, we can usually have the base made as a bespoke size but there would be no 60 day love it or return it guarantee. It is unlikely however, that drawers can be accommodated within this height.
