My memory foam beds dipping in the centre and gets hot

A customer asked

I have a memory foam mattress on a firm slatted base. It's dipping in the centre rather and I've been considering replacing it with a natural latex one. I dont like the heat, memory foam generates but love the 'sinky in' quality and worry slightly that latex may be too firm for me. So my question really is, is there a latex mattress with an equivalent feel...one that is quite soft with plenty of give. I'm a little under 9 stone. Thankyou.

Hi Jenny,

Sorry to hear your memory foam mattress is failing and dipping in the centre. More often than not this is due to two issues with memory foam.

Why memory foam dips

  1. Memory foam settles far quicker than natural fibres
  2. You can't turn over a memory foam mattress meaning this settlement happens far quicker than a traditional fibre mattress.

The issue of central dipping may also be because the central support bar for the slats is lower than the slats themselves. Before spending money on a new mattress, I would suggest placing 3-5mm MDF/peg board sheeting over the slats to provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit and will eliminate the possibility of central dipping.

Why memory foam gets hot:

Memory foam is incredibly heat retentive. In fact, it relies on retaining body heat to be able to work. That's why in a cold bedroom a memory foam mattress will feel far firmer than in a warmer bedroom or summer months. If you're a warm sleeper you will probably want to avoid memory foam and look at Latex or a Natural Fibre mattress.

The feel of latex will depend upon the density of the latex itself. I note that you have not provided any details regarding your body weight(s) but have a look at our Fusion 3 mattress as a starting point. it's 100% Natural Latex and two-sided so it can be fully turned and rotated just like a Traditional springs/" title="pocket spring">pocket spring mattress.
