Hi guys,
Thanks for your site - it's fascinating and very informative.
I'm 5' 4" and 9st 6lb, husband is 5' 7" and 10 st 4lb.
Our current mattress - which we've been very happy with - is a Hypnos Wendover (""1258 individual pocketed springs upholstered with cotton felt and wool under damask ticking. It has a 2-row hand-stitched border and is hand-tufted for a longer life" and has "Firmer" tension springs.) As it is now 23 years old (sorry) we thought we might get a new one. (We have tried before but never found anything to match it.)
Since we last tried, there seems to be a new generation of foam mattresses out but would they really give us the support that we want, and are there any hygiene issues (sweating, etc.)? Would we be better off sticking with a sprung mattress? Which out of your range would you recommend for our height and weight?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Carol,

Thank you for your questions.

Thank you for your positive feedback regarding the website.

At the body weights provided we would match you both with a Medium spring; This is what gives the support from inside the mattress itself.

Once the spring and support is established then it becomes about the top upholstery layers, also known as the comfort layers, and how you want those to feel; This is where you can have a soft sink in sensation, more of a medium support or a firmer feel. Please take a look at our Artisan range. I would advise that you use the Artisan Naturals as a starting point. The Naturals is our most popular, unbeatable model with 85% natural fibres. Containing a huge GSM of fillings, including wool and mohair, on a Calico pocket spring unit. This medium feel hand crafted mattress is where we stake our reputation as ‘The Mattress Specialists’. We compare this model to the Vi Spring Regal Superb if you are interested in trying something in a showroom that would provide a similar feel.

4 1500gsm 100% Pure Mohair 1000gsm Bonded British Fleece Wool and Cotton

There's nothing to say that a foam mattress won't give a correct support but it is very much a different sensation to a traditional pocket sprung mattress. I would always recommend testing and trying a foam mattress before purchasing due to the different feel.

Our own Hybrid Foam range compares with the the Tempur range that can be found in any Furniture Village, Harrods, House of Fraser or And So To Bed store.

I can't really advise you whether what's best for you is to have either a Pocket Sprung or Foam mattress; Only you yourself know what is ideal to you.

We would need to know how you prefer the mattress to feel overall in order to match you with one of our own. You have indicated above that your current mattress has firmer springs but the springs are one part of the mattress and this isn't the same as the comfort layers on top.

I hope that this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries then please don't hesitate to contact me on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards,
Amy.
