Selecting the right mattress and base
My wife and I are both in our 60's. my wife has a bad back and I have bad knees and shoulders. We have always had dunlopillo mattresses. I am severely asthmatic. We have just taken delivery of a new Tempur bed with a hard top ottoman base. We bought the top of the range mattress which is described as soft. I have two problems. It's not soft and I have an asthma attack every time I get in it.
As we have got older we have found the beds feeling firmer. I am desperate to buy a bed that will give us a good nights sleep and one which doesn't make us feel old every morning when we get up
I am 5'9" and 12 stone
My wife is 5'0" and about 9 stone. We are both very fit and live an active lifestyle
Good Morning Ian,
Thank you for your question.
We always start our process by matching the customer to the correct spring so with the body weights you have provided you are both matched to a Medium spring tension.
The spring tension is what provides you with the correct level of support within the mattress itself.
Once this is established your next main consideration needs to be what you want the mattress to feel like in it's top upholstery layers, also known as the comfort layers.
The Tempur range is comparable to our own Hybrid range. However, due to the comparison, and due to the issues you're finding with Tempur then our advice would be to steer clear.
We have 2 traditional pocket sprung mattress ranges that we offer; The Origins range and the Artisan range.
The Origins range, being our starter range, are constructed from man made, synthetic fibres and materials whereas the Artisan range is constructed from natural fibres and materials.
I would recommend our Origins Pocket 1500, Artisan 1500 and Artisan Naturals models. All 3 of these models are very medium feeling in the comfort layers in their respective ranges; I.e, not too soft or too firm. All of these mattresses will give you the correct level of support both within the mattress spring itself and the comfort layer.
In regards to the base, all 3 of these mattresses are fine to go on to a solid top base. It just means that the mattresses will feel slightly firmer due to sitting on top of a solid surface.
I hope this has answered all of your questions fully but if you do have any further queries then please don't hesitate to contact us on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards, Lee.
