We have 6x4.6 bed with a slatted wooden mattress base. I’m 12st my wife is 10 st.

Can you give some guidance on the mattress type we should look at? We've looked at the Vispring range of beds at Furniture village but we're really confused.

Do you make alternatives to Vispring or recommend any comparative mattress models?

Hi Phillip,

Thanks for your question on how to choose a mattress. It can be really confusing given all the different models and makes. It can make choosing a mattress rather difficult without some help!

We do have a range of alternatives and comparative models to the Vispring bed range. Before that, we need to establish what spring tension you need which is based on your bodyweight.

Your body weight will determine the overall spring tension you would require, as shown by the table below

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

From there, your sleeping habits/personal preference will then determine how you would like the mattress to feel in the comfort layers. This is where you will achieve the feel you are looking for (soft/medium/firm). Do you know if you have a preference for a soft, medium or firm?

If you do not, I would advise to go out and try the;

Once you have done that please get back in touch with your preferences and I will be able to point you in the right direction with a lot more accuracy.

Our pocket sprung mattresses will be suitable for slatted bases as long as the gaps between the slats are no more than 3 inches. If this is the case, then we would always advise boarding over this with a thin MDF/Plywood layer to create a uniform platform divan

I hope that helps and if you have any further questions please get back in touch on 0161 437 4419 or info@localhost.
