Topper for a Silent Night mattress

Nathan Mountier asked
5th January 2017

I have a medium firm kingsize matress. I have only had it for a couple of months having exchanged it for a firm mattress within a 40 day and night trial.
This mattress though is too supportive and i awake with tight muscles and muscle spasms.
I have been looking at mattress toppers to give me a cushion and wondered what your advice would be please.
The make of my mattress is a silent night mira pocket with 2500 springs etc…. i am 6’1″ and weigh 11.5 stone

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for getting in touch and sorry you’re finding your Silent night Mira pocket too firm.

For your body weight we would match you with a Medium spring tension to get the right support.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

A pocket sprung mattress always has 2 elements to it; The spring tension and then the fillings. You can have a Soft, Medium and Firm in both but spring tension is determined solely by body weight.

We would advise to steer clear of a firm mattress in the fillings if you are a side sleeper as this will simply cause pressure point pains in places such as shoulders, hips and knees.

A mattress topper might do the trick here as long as the mattress isn’t sagged in any way as the topper will then simply conform to it. You would be best going for something thick in depth to provide extra comfort. Maybe have a look at a company online called Soak and Sleep; They have a much wider range of toppers than we do and should have something more suitable.

I hope this helps but if you have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
