This advanced mattress features a Dual Pocket Spring system for progressive support with a medium feel from the huge amounts of Natural Fibres.
First Layer: 1200GSM Blended British Fleece Wool and Cotton. This is the same primary layer as used on many Vi Spring models where they utilise a BlendeWool and Cotton layer in a 50/50 mix. This is a premium comfort component and is also used on our Artisan Luxury and Artisan Bespoke models.
Second Layer: Hairproof Cambric Cover
Third Layer: 1250GSM Poly Cotton. 50% Cotton blended with 50% polyester to obtain a good level of comfort and support. Extremely high recovery property. This is the only polyester element (Just 625GSM) used in the Comfort Layers.
Fourth Layer: 1500GSM Pure 100% Mohair. Superb and premium foundation for the forthcoming comfort layers. Mohair comes secondary to Horsehair as a component that will [almost] never lose its rebound quality. Knowing this assures you that you will never feel the springs poking you in the back.
This mattress is covered in our white woven 100% Viscose with a subtle John Ryan design and is chemical-free.

This model is quite simply based on our Artisan Naturals. In order to keep the majority of natural fillings, we could only compromise on the spring unit. In this case, we use an a Spunbond encased premium pocket spring unit over two tiers, coupled with the benefit of having a choice of two spring tensions to suit of Medium or Firm depending on your body weight.
Even though The Artisan Naturals is superbly priced (and of course unbeatable for quality and price ) it did fall outside many peoples budget. This Tailored Pocket model becomes the next best option especially for progressive support from the 2 layers of springs.
The mattress cover is completely Chemical-Free using a Natural plant-based fire retardancy protection.

No, and no showroom or retailer sells our products. Our team will be able to guide you to the right product for you and your budget. We grade the products in our warehouse and the grading is decided based on the condition of the product upon return. All mattresses are Grade B or C. At this stage we cannot give you the history of each product or the very specifics of where any marks may be located so if this is important for you to know then a clearance bed may not be for you and you can choose your mattress in the normal way. We do however guarantee that the condition will be no worse than described below and in most cases is actually better!

We appreciated the personal approach from John Ryan taking the time to check we appeared to have selected the best mattress for our needs. The delivery team turned up when they said they would, wore shoe covers to protect our carpets, delivered to a room of our choosing and unwrapped the mattresses taking all packaging with them. High quality experience from start to finish with a high quality product, they absolutely deserve the business and we will be returning for any future mattress purchases.

Early doors (just under a month since…
Early doors (just under a month since we received delivery), but so far so good! We ordered an Artisan Tailored 2000 as per requirements discussed via email, with a half medium half firm tension.
We came to John Ryan and decided to invest after previously investing in 2 cheaper mattresses within a 4 year period, which certainly felt like false economy, especially after our latest we could start to feel the springs!
It’s provided us many great nights sleep so far, and it’s amazing having so much room on the super king. We don’t look forward to flipping >70kg when the 1 month mark comes up – but just a necessary evil I suppose to maintain the longevity of the mattress.
Will feel free to edit the review in the future if we face any issues – but I’m confident at this stage that we’ll be fine.

WONDERFUL BED, WONDERFUL SERVICE. My wife and I made the usual visits to all the main ‘High Street’ brand selling shops, only to become increasingly ‘comparison confused’ and concerned by our follow up research revealing poor quality products and customer support, as experienced by fellow bed searchers treading the same path before us. Cross-eyed and despairing we confided in a friend who said “try John Ryan” , describing them as reminiscent of the ‘good old fashioned days’ of low volume hand made beds and superb customer service through choice, delivery and after care. We’ll, it’s true. We were helped to make the right choice, they were spot on with their delivery timescale using a fantastic courier, and were so helpful when we changed our mind for another model during the order process, no questions asked, just happy to help us get it right. We cannot say how much of a relief it was to be able to put our trust in a modern company with a good old fashioned pride in what they make. For us, buying a new bed was an expensive investment, which, thanks to John Ryan, has paid off. We now have a wonderful, high quality bed for the same high street prices, and it feels like it was tailor made just for us. It was! Absolutely fantastic service
Absolutely fantastic service from order to delivery. The customer journey with this company has been exemplary. I wish all companies treated their customers with such care. From the telephone call to walk me through my choice of mattress tension, to the delivery team who couldn’t have been more helpful.
In truth I was a little concerned about the feel of the mattress for the first couple of weeks, but I had been advised that it would take up to 5 weeks to become accustomed to the change. This was the case and I am now happy with the mattress.

I found the John Ryan website sometime ago after realising that our one sided memory foam topped mattress was probably the cause of at least some of my back problems. It was obviously written by people who really knew what they were talking about when it came to mattresses but it seemed a great leap of faith to actually buy one online.
Foolishly we did the usual rounds of bed shops somehow expecting to recognise from lying on a dozen different mattresses ‘the one’ which was right for us. Of course we didn’t and it didn’t help my back either!
I’d told my daughter about John Ryan and as she also needed a new mattress, having read all she needed to know on the website, went ahead and ordered and is very happy with her choice.
With this example as an encouragement and the fact that the company offers a 60 night return guarantee if it proves to be unsuitable, and also after speaking with Julie to clarify what it was we needed I went ahead and ordered our Artisan 2000.
Exactly a month later and with an update from Anton and Roy as to the time we could expect them, the delivery was made, efficiently and pleasantly.
Two weeks later I can only wonder why the hesitation, it’s definitely the most comfortable mattress we’ve ever had and the back problems are much improved. Can take a little longer than purchasing from the big boys, but the results are worth it.
This was my first bed purchase so I spend a lot of time reading up online, going I to retail outlets and trying beds out, speaking with others. I came across John Ryan by Design in my research and was impressed with the comprehensive information on not only their models, but also general inormation on bed construction types and the level of open discussion they had with their customers online – clearly a knowledgeable set of individuals, who had a passion for what they do.
In the end I decided that the Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 and sprung edge divan was right for the budget, quality and durability I wanted.
Yes I could have purchased something from a big retail outlet quicker, however my partner and I can now sleep easy for the next 10+ years on what we both agree is the most comfortable bed we have both slept on. In other words I couldn’t be happier with the results and would happily reccomend friends and purshase ourselves again if John Ryan are still around in 10 years.
I would endorse the JR recommendation regarding Soak and Sleep wool topper for their natural fibre mattresses also. Tim

Sleeping like a baby
Well not quite as I am 45! But it feels like it. Suddenly i find myself dreaming again and sleeping all night-fantastic. I bought the Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 Kingsize – the delivery guys were fantastic as arranging delivery proved a little tricky. The mattress feels a little softer than expected but despite that I am finding that the quality of construction is shining through. These are hefty mattresses so turning is no mean feat .. But there are handles on all sides which is a rare thing these days, which does help. Thumbs up. S Holling

Having been incredibly impressed with the John Ryan website and all the information provided, I went ahead and ordered the above mattress. The ordering process went very smoothly. I was told there would be a 4 week delivery, and bang on time my mattress duly arrived (the delivery men were very helpful and efficient). It didn’t disappoint! I’d only just been looking at some in M&S which looked very inferior in comparison. The padding, support and finish is superb. It is a heavy mattress though and will require 2 people to turn it. I did have a slightly dodgy first week adjusting to it as I have always slept on firm beds. However, I went for medium tension as I’d been reading up about this sometimes being the better option for bad back sufferers, and it was also recommended by John Ryan (do ask for advice and tell them your weight). I had to abandon the microfibre topper I’d bought as the bed felt too soft for me at first. It’s back on now I’ve got used to it and I have to say the whole set up is incredibly comfortable. I’m finding I can sleep on my back very comfortably after years of not being able to on a firm mattress, and so far, the back ache has receded as I am being supported so well. All in all, extremely pleased with my purchase and would recommend John Ryan wholeheartedly. Tina B

Love my new bed!!
Love my new bed!! It arrived in plenty of time for Christmas too which was a huge relief. Delivery team were really nice and efficient. We should’ve gone up to this SK Zip & Link years ago!! One thing to be aware of is the mattress is very deep and if you add a topper too like we did you have to be careful when buying deep fitted sheets that will fit properly. This was our second bed purchase from JR and we will always buy from them in the future!
