What you will need to do is get the correct tension of support for your weight first and foremost. Then after that, you decide what comfort ‘feel ‘ you want from the mattress. Soft, medium or firm? Then using this you can then factor in different style or materials in the mattress to get that feeling. To help a bad back it is essential to have the correct mattress support tension and then some give in the upholstery.
