Holiday let mattress advice

Thank you for reaching out to us, and congratulations on the renovation of your beach house in Cornwall! Providing a memorable night's sleep is one of the best ways to ensure holiday guests return year after year, so investing in the right beds is a fantastic move.

When catering to a wide variety of holiday guests with differing body weights and sleeping preferences, there are a few key factors to consider regarding mattress construction and durability:

- Pocket Springs: A high-quality pocket sprung mattress is ideal for support. However, spring count isn't the only measure of quality. A standard high-spec pocket sprung mattress usually peaks around 1,000 to 1,500 springs per tier; higher numbers often mean smaller micro-springs stacked together rather than greater overall support.

- Memory Foam & Pillow Tops: While memory foam and pillow top layers offer immediate plushness, they can present challenges in a holiday rental setting. Memory foam retains body heat—which can be uncomfortable during summer months—and adapts strictly to one person's shape over time. Pillow tops, because they cannot be flipped, tend to settle and wear unevenly under varied use.

For guest/holiday lets we would recommend something more medium or medium/firm in the top layers. Have a look at our Origins Pocket 1500 or Origins Pocket Reflex 1000.

The Origins Pocket 1500 is a true medium in the top layers providing a slight sink into that top layer but not too much. Alternatively, our Origins Pocket Reflex 1000 is firmer in that top layer but as such accommodates a much wider range of body weights. Whilst we do say this is firmer in the comfort layers we do get a lot of feedback that this mattress is very comfortable at the same time.

Please note though that these products are not Crib 5 - We have to point this out as with hotels there is a requirement for the Crib 5 standard.

- Divan Bases & Storage: For the divan bases, a robust, solid-platform divan with sturdy continental or full-size drawers will easily accommodate extra bedding, pillows, and guest clothing without risking drawer runner failure over time.
