TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Reflex Foam mattress

Joe asked
21st December 2016

Hello,
Hello,
I intend to buy a new mattress and have been trying to find the right one for me. My budget isn’t high unfortunately, but I understand that buying cheap might often mean the mattress won’t last very long, so a bit of a false economy. Still, I don’t have much to spend to trying to find a firm mattress which would last more than a couple of years.
memory foam is not an option as it retains heat and too soft for me. And from what I’ve seen a good-quality durable pocket-sprung mattress can cost quite a bit.
So I found myself looking at Reflex Foam mattresses. From what I could see, some adults with back pains swear by it, while most people buy these for their children/guest room/caravan. So am not quite sure. (I’ve seen your info page here with density specs etc – very helpful, thanks. I also intend to put an MDF board under the mattress for bit extra support)
My question is – do Reflex Foam mattresses with decent density (most I’ve seen are quite thin, between 14-25cm) actually offer good support? And do they last long, or will they collapse and take my body shape sooner than later? Brands I’ve been looking at: Sareer, Dibapur, Happy Beds, eXtreme Comfort.
If you’re familiar with any decent ones I’d love to be pointed in the right direction! Alternatively, would you know which stores stock any in their showrooms for me to go and test them out?
Thanks a lot,
Joe

Hi Joe,

Many thanks for your enquiry.

Reflex foam is usually added as an upholstery layer to make mattresses feel slightly firmer and whilst you have indicated a number of products you looking at, we are unable to provide an opinion as to performance or longevity as the descriptions of all of these are quite brief. In addition, it is impossible to say how you might find a Reflex foam mattress in terms of feel and whether it will flatten without details of your body weight. The density of the foam will make a difference to the firmness of the mattress, so even if thin, it could still be quite firm.

If you place MDF board under a foam mattress this will make that mattress feel firmer and if it is already firm, it may make it too firm and inappropriate for your body weight or preferred feel. We are not aware of stockists who display these products in their showrooms, however, a decent search on the internet should reveal some which may be local to you.

It may be worth viewing the products in our Fusion range or Hybrid foam range, as the density of these products is detailed within the description of each and they may provide a suitable alternative to the reflex foam you are looking at. We trust that this helps.
