Tempur v pocket spring
Hi there, just been trying out mattresses in John Lewis and now a bit uncertain of our next move. Currently on a Rest Assured 1400 pocket spring with Latex – 6 years old & my wife gets very bad back & neck pain. We liked the John Lewis ortho 1800, but were absolutely smitten with the Tempur Sensation 22. It’s a big hike in price from the ortho 1800, and neither of us gave ever slept on either memory foam or Tempur. What we’d ideally like to do is buy the Tempur & try it for a couple of months, but realise this isn’t a realistic option. I just don’t want to shell out 1500 quid for a mattress that long term isn’t what we’re looking for. Wife is about 10 stone, I’m 12. Would appreciate any advice or comparisions between a standard springs/” title=”pocket spring”>pocket spring v Tempur, including longevity & suitability for someone prone to neck & back problems from a duff mattress. I note your current mattress is a pocket sprung one with a layer of latex and that you are both of average body weights. Having regard to your body weights, I would advise that mattresses with the words “ortho” or “orthopaedic” in the name tend to be on the firm side. Trying a mattress for a short time in a store is no substitute for sleeping on it for up to eight hours a night and any initial feel provided will turn out to be quite different once you have taken delivery of your new product. In addition, you will not be aware of how long the display model has been in store and how many, possibly thousands, of people have tried it out, all of which will have a detrimental effect on the upholstery meaning that it will feel completely different to a brand new model.

Tempur mattresses are primarily memory foam and this is notorious for heat retention and they use body heat to assist in their function. Furthermore, they are slow to return to original shape meaning that at times it can feel like you are climbing out of a hole when turning during the night.
