What Does Having a Luxury Mattress Mean?
The word ‘luxury’ can mean many things to different people, however it’s always synonymous with something that’s elegant, enjoyable, and high quality. And this of course applies to a luxury mattress too.
It’s a huge decision to choose a new mattress, as it’s something that will impact you (and your partner) for the next 7 years or more. It’s important to consider the details that matter, when it comes to finding a new mattress, and to think about what having a luxury mattress means for you.
Does it mean you’ll get the soothing, supportive and comforting sleep experience that you deserve? At John Ryan, we’re here to tell why it does…
How do you determine what’s luxury?
We are all naturally visual beings, and often take just 7 seconds to form an opinion about something, based solely on how it looks. This of course applies to the quality of a product too, as we often tend to judge quality based on visual stimuli and other surface-level observations.
When searching for a new mattress, you might find yourself succumbing to this level of thinking as you walk around the showroom floor. You may spot a bed that particularly stands out to you in a visually striking way. After giving it a quick feel with your hand, you may decide it’s worth lying down on. However, this looking-and-touching technique of deciding whether or not a mattress is luxury is completely counter-intuitive.
The determining factors of any luxury mattress is what materials were used and how it was made, along with its inner components. And knowing this information will tell you exactly what you’re getting for your money. This is why you don’t need to traipse around endless showrooms and shopping centres to find a luxurious mattress, which is perfectly tailored to you.
What makes a luxury mattress?
A quality mattress with a luxurious feel does not mean it has to be the most expensive sleep surface you can find. Our Origins Range is proof of this, as these affordable starter models all provide the minimum standard you should expect from a luxury mattress.
And by that we mean combining the most reactive and supportive pocket-springs, with deep luxurious layers of the finest fillings. All to achieve a sleep experience that leaves you feeling rested, relaxed and always supported.
Quality mattresses need to achieve a strong balance of gradual support, which means having a direct correlation between you, the upholstery and the spring unit. The spring unit should be able to adjust and react to the movements of your body. Plus, the upholstery layers; which consist of the support, bridging, and comfort layers, must always be perfectly balanced with each other.
Unfortunately very few manufacturers actually list the components they use within their mattresses, even when they’re labelled ‘luxury.’ One of the most important pieces of information is the GSM, which stands for ‘Grams per square metre’. This essentially tells you the actual weight of a particular upholstery component used in the mattress. And you can use this as a strong basis to establish its quality.
How does it make you feel?
It’s taken years of experience and expertise to produce our well-crafted mattresses at John Ryan. And each one has been meticulously adjusted, from the springs to the bridging layers, in order to provide you with a mattress that’s perfectly suited to you.
True luxury doesn’t mean breaking the bank. For a luxury mattress it means getting a sleep surface that’s been specifically designed to give you the best level of support, and comfort you can get within your budget.
Luxury does mean something a little different to each of us at different stages of our lives, and it’s important to carefully consider what you want and need before making a purchase decision. However, we can all agree that a luxury mattress should mean decades of comfort and enjoyment for you (and your partner).
