The Artisan Bespoke has an incredible 5100GSM of 100% Natural fillings.
The Horsetail, Horsehair and Cashmere insulator gives the mattress a firmer feel in the top upholstery Comfort Layers.
Two layers of Wool and Blended British Wool and Cotton provide a slight sink giving this a firm but forgiving feel.
The Bespoke has three rows of Genuine Hand Side Stitching & Hand Nested Springs. 8 padded turning handles on a Kingsize model.
1600 Calico encased Pocket Springs [49mm] [1.28mm] Sewn-in individual calico pockets and hand-formed into a honeycomb-nested unit. We also zone the perimeter sides (2 rows) of the mattress with a slightly firmer spring to aid the edge support. This stabilises the mattress when sitting on the edge.
The Woven mattress cover is completely Chemical-Free using a Natural plant-based fire retardancy protection.

Our team will be able to guide you to the right product for you and your budget. We grade the products in our warehouse and the grading is decided based on the condition of the product upon return. All mattresses are Grade B or C. At this stage we cannot give you the history of each product or the very specifics of where any marks may be located so if this is important for you to know then a clearance bed may not be for you and you can choose your mattress in the normal way. We do however guarantee that the condition will be no worse than described below and in most cases is actually better!

Artisan Bespoke Mattress…Now Fully Acclimatised
I purchased an Artisan Bespoke Mattress nearly seven weeks ago after I was advised by John Ryan that due to my body weight and sleeping style that an Artisan Bespoke would be an excellent choice, which was also the most comparable to a Vispring Herald Superb which I had tried in the Vispring Flagship Store in London and liked although their price is a lot more expensive that the JR Artisan Bespoke.
I have to say that after putting up with a 10-year-old saggy “medium tension” Dreams mattress, the JR Bespoke mattress can as to major shock to my system not to mention my back. After the first two or three nights (sorry, I can’t really call it sleep) I was worried that after spending a fair bit of money I had made to wrong choice and the mattress tension (Firm) was far too hard for my poor back. I also need to mention that I had also paired it with a Hasena Swiss handmade solid wooden bed which also may have had a contributing effect.
I then went back to the JR forum (a superb source of advice, information & feedback IMHO) and read up again on the advice that you should give it four to six weeks for your body to acclimatise to the new mattress and the new mattress to acclimatise to your body. I won’t claim that things dramatically changed for the better in the next couple of nights, but I will claim that my sleep, rest and comfort levels continuously improved over the next three or four weeks.
I can honestly say that I now look forward to bedtimes in the knowledge that I will be getting a comfortable full night’s sleep & rest. I would like to give a huge thankyou to all JR Staff for all their advice, help and expertise and would recommend them to anyone looking for a top quality mattress & top notch customer service.

Excellent company I contacted their customer support team and discussed the type of support I needed for my mattress as I had previously bought one 10 years ago but they no longer had that one in their collection. They were incredibly supportive. We then arranged delivery and the communication for that was also excellent. The delivery drivers brought the mattress upstairs and took the other mattress away. I highly recommend this company and the mattress is of an exceptionally high standard And I am sure will last me for another 10 years.

I’ve had this mattress for around 2 years now. I decided to wait before reviewing (though I didn’t mean to leave it this long). I couldn’t be happier with it. It’s so comfortable, I sleep so much better than I used to. My partner has back and neck problems and these have really improved since we got the mattress. I did loads of research before buying, loved the level of detail on the John Ryan site and I’m so glad we decided to trust them. There was a problem with the delivery and JR sorted it very quickly and without any hassle. We scandalised our entire family by spending so much on a bed but it is hands down the best purchase I have ever made.

I have now had my double Artisan Bespoke for over three months and I am really pleased with it. I am sleeping better on it, the biggest improvement from my old mattress is that it’s easier to get back to sleep on it if you wake up early, or just want to doze for a bit.
It is a bit awkward to turn over but one man of average fitness can do it. It does take a good 24 hours to air out, if I bought again I would keep my old mattress while this happened. The guarantee is reassuring, I much prefer seeing things before buying them, especially at this price. One condition of this is that you use a mattress topper, which I found considerably reduced the effectiveness of the mattress.
The buying experience was good, the various staff members were very patient with my numerous questions and did not try to sell me something I didn’t need, like a new base. They knew more and were a lot more professional than than staff in some showrooms I visited.
Overall I would recommend John Ryan and would buy from them again.

Best beds at any price
Bought a like-for-like replacement super kingsize mattress. Our previous one gave many years excellent service and is still the most comfortable bed anywhere.
Service, as always, is fantastic. You always get a confirmatory call to make sure everything is right before they process the order.
Delivery process was straightforward and on time. The two-man team delivered the bed to our room and set it in place for us.

I originally ordered the Artisan Bespoke 004 and the 3rd party delivery company provided an awful delivery experience, plus I wasn’t sure that was the best mattress for me; but Julie provided helpful advice and engagement with the delivery company so the replacement mattress and delivery experience met all of my expectations. I love my Artisan Bespoke because even though other customers with similar measurements (I am about 170cm and 60kg) find this mattress firm, I am a stomach sleeper and find the wool only top upholstery layer does provide adequate sink and does not feel a bit lumpy like the wool-cotton blend at the top of the Artisan Bespoke 004, with the firmer lower upholstery providing needed support whereas the lower upholstery layers of the Artisan Bespoke 004 did not feel quite as supportive for my personal tastes so there would have been no headroom for softening across the 10 year guarantee period. If the topmost layer eventually gets a bit lumpy despite turning then I plan to get a mattress topper, which is ideal with a firmer mattress, but for now it feels great. Happy customer.

Fantastic beds from a company that cares. Yes their expensive compared to the general run of the mill beds out there. However if you want the most comfortable bed you can’t go wrong with a custom made bed from this company. This is our second purchase and I’m sure there will be more in the future.

Excellent service and delivery. Ordered sprung base and artisan bespoke mattress. Sprung base softened the feel of the mattress. Artisan bespoke is the firmest mattress but it is no way overly firm. Only been a few weeks but everything seems fine

Had the mattress around a month now, very comfortable. Ordering and delivery all pretty seamless, with some extra care points calling to run through the order, and lots of communication with delivery company on delivery day. Website very good for research, really helped me make my decision and cut through a lot of the marketing noise that surrounds the marketplace around mattresses. It was time for a new mattress so started looking. I was aware of only good things said about John Ryan so had a read of their website and called them for a chat. We agreed on the Artisan Bespoke but there was no way I was buying the base to go with it as let’s face it a sprung base is just one big con isn’t it! Nothing wrong with my divan base so why replace it?
Michaela gave me all the info’ I needed (with no hard sale) and off I went trying and looking into her various suggestions. Needless to say her knowledge of all things beds were superior to mine and we also bought a sprung base. We also purchased a headboard.
Delivery was arranged and I felt sorry for the delivery team as not only did they have to carry a 56KG mattress up one flight of stairs but then also up another as our bedroom is in the loft.
So. The important question. Is it comfortable? Hell yes! Most comfortable bed we’ve ever slept on. 11 out of 10.
Would I recommend John Ryan? Yes. I genuinely would highly recommend them. Yes, they’re not cheap, but then quality isn’t.

Purchased the Artisan Bespoke
Purchased the Artisan Bespoke, and its the best mattress i have ever slept on. I already knew what mattress i needed (firm) but the composition and quality of materials also mattered (natural). John Ryan was the only manufacturer that included this information. The only pain was waiting 4 weeks for it to be constructed and delivered but since taking delivery the lower back pain i used to experience every morning has disappeared and my quality of sleep is now the best it has ever been. It was somewhat expensive but given you spend 1/3 of your life asleep its worth every penny, this is not an area i was going to accept poor quality. This particular mattress is heavy so turning is a 2 man job but that is more indicative of the quality of the product. I also appreciated the quality of advice on the John Ryan website and the feedback to various customers. Delivery was professional, they rang me the day before to confirm and provided an expected ETA, they also took the mattress up 2 flights of stairs to the required bedroom and took away all the wrapping. Overall, i was expecting a quality product and service and i got one.

I have purchased Artisan Bespoke Super King Medium/Soft split couple months ago. Frankly I have spent a lot of time trying different mattresses at the shops and got more and more confused more I’ve tried so I simply followed the advise by the office and ordered one thinking worse case scenario I will send it back if it won’t suit me. Being consultant and treating spinal pain for number of years I have suspected how important is the mattress and ability to give a chance for your body to restore itself during the sleep but I did not expect what have’happened. After first night my pain eased and I simply feel more rested in the morning, same with my wife. I believe pocket spring mattress with natural filling is the best and my experience confirms it. Bespoke is quite firm , firmer than Vispring so make sure this is what you want. It suits me.
I would like to thank everybody in the office for bespoke boutique service and especially gentlemen from delivery company who have sorted delivery time out of hours during our first conversation. This is so rare in our time to receive such service when people genuinely care and so important especially for us working impossible schedules. Delivery itself was great I just feel sorry for the team who needs to carry 80kg mattresses upstairs through tight spaces.

I decided on the Artisan bespoke as I wanted the best and with the ViSpring being completely out of my range I ordered from here. Recently purchased the Artisan Bespoke and am delighted with the comfort and build quality. This replaced a much loved Hypnos bed but from the first nights use, we found the new bed to be perfect in terms of support. We had been recommended the medium spring tension based on our individual weights and so far we have both slept really well. Our only complaint is that we struggle to prise ourselves from the bed in order to get to work!
The delivery guys were very helpful and unpacked and assembled the bed to enable us to check everything over, and the whole ordering process has been smooth, professional, and trouble free. I would not hesitate to recommend FB Direct and am so pleased that I stumbled upon their website.

an easy process from start to finish from order to delivery. Very helpful communication throughout. We’ve only had the mattress a few days but it’s very comfortable – will see how it lasts compared to our last mattress which was a ViSpring, certainly at the moment we’re really pleased with it.

I was looking for a new bed online and by chance stumbled upon the John Ryan website. I was blown away by the staggering amount of information about beds!
Having deciding that I wanted a John Ryan bed and after two telephone conversations with very helpful and knowledgeable members of staff, they pulled out all the stops to ensure that we had a pre-christmas delivery.
The bed looks very classy and my wife and I have just had two of the best nights sleep we have had in a long while.
Obviously it is to early to comment on how long the bed will last but so far, we are delighted with the bed and the service provided by John Ryan By Design.
