A customer asked

Hi
I have found your website which is very helpful. We are looking to buy a super king mattress budget up to a maximum of £2000. My partner weighs 80kg and I weigh 50kg. we like a supported feel and need to have motion isolated. We are very unclear as to whether memory foam or sprung would be better for us and which mattress to purchase. The mattress will be placed on a slatted bedstead
many thanks for your help

Hi Lorraine,

Thank you for your enquiry on our website.  If you are looking for a supportive feel, I would not recommend memory foam, primarily because it is very heat retentive and secondly it is slow to return to shape meaning that when you wish to move in bed it can feel like climbing out of a hole.

With the 4 st weight differential I would suggest that you look at a split spring tension, soft for you and medium for your partner, although at a pinch, you could opt for a medium across the whole and apply a topper if you feel it is too firm. Please view the products in our Artisan range, all of which can be made in a split tension in a one piece super king size. Alternatively, you may wish to consider a zip and link set of mattresses, again in a split tension and this would mean there would be even less chance of disturbance when one of you moves.

Please note that when placing a mattress on a slatted base, if the gap between the slats is more than 7cm, you should look place 3-5mm MDF sheeting over the slats to provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit and avoid it depressing into the slats, which would mean the mattress would feel ridged when turned. If the slats are less than 7cm apart, then the application of a blanket or old duvet should be sufficient to avoid the ridging.

If you would like to discuss this or anything else please do not hesitate to call on 0161 437 4419 and speak to our friendly team.  Our office hours are 8 am - 8 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am - 4 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Kind Regards

Michaela
