Which sort of mattress should we be looking for? Both me and my husband weigh around 12 stone. I suffer with lower back pain which is currently exacerbated by our mattress which is 8 years old and sagging in places. I loved our mattress when we first got it and its lasted fairly well, it was a Sensaform Desire mattress on a slated bed. We currently have a slated bed and are only looking to replace the mattress at this point.

Hi Victoria,

Thank you for your enquiry on our website.  Unfortunately, the only mattress we have that is of similar construction would be the Origins Pocket Latex 1500 but as side sleepers, this would be too firm for the both of you.

With your body weights, you require a medium spring tension to give you the correct level of support.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

The advice used to be that for any form of back problem you needed a firm mattress but that is a misnomer.  As long as you have the correct spring tension then the upholstery is dictated by personal preferences and sleeping habits. As side sleepers we wouldn't recommend anything to firm in the comfort layers as this can cause pressure pains in the shoulders, hips and knees. You need a mattress that is more of a medium in the comfort layers.

Artisan Naturals mattress

We have two pocket sprung ranges, our synthetic fibre Origins range and our natural fibre Artisan range.  In the origins range I would recommend you look at the Origins Pocket 1500 and in the Artisan range I would recommend the Artisan Naturals, both would give you the support you need with a  good all-around medium feel.

I trust that this helps, but if you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.  Our office hours are 8 am – 8 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am – 4 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Kind Regards
Michaela
