Bed too firm

Our current bed is a Sealy firm mattress on a divan base but the base has just a flat board top. I am finding it very uncomfortable- feels too firm - although my husband who is heavier has no problems with it. Is it the divan base which is making it too firm? If I buy one of your medium tension mattresses and don’t replace the base, will I just have the same problem? I’d rather pay more for a better mattress than compromise by buying the whole bed.

Hi Lynn,

Thank you for your question.

The type of base you choose will have an affect on the overall feel of the mattress placed on top, for example a solid top (platform divan) base will firm up the over all feel slightly whereas a sprung divan base will soften the overall feel of the mattress slightly.

If your mattress is already firm in feel, using it on top of a solid base is only making it firmer still. If you were to change to a sprung base that would soften it slightly. If you were to purchase one of our medium feel mattresses and place it on your existing base it will give a slightly firmer feel to the support (springs) in the mattress, however if your husband finds your current set up comfortable then changing to a medium mattress may feel too soft for him!

It may be an idea for you to try a mattress topper on your side of the mattress to see if this gives you some comfort.

If you would like to discuss this in more detail please feel free to give the office a call on 0161 437 4419.

Kind regards,
Amy
