Jim Moore

Hi

I’ll be looking to get a new bed October/November and I’m really unsure what bed to get.

I’m 22 stone, a side sleeper and I’m pretty sure I dont like too firm a bed.

Could you recommend a king size or super king mattress, base with 2 drawers and also advise what cost of delivery be to Glasgow (it’s a G73) address. Thanks in advance.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for getting in touch about mattress recommendations for someone who doesn't want an overly firm bed.

Most pocket sprung retail mattresses are only made for sleepers up to 18 stone and don't cater for larger sleepers. However, we do! Ideally, we need to know your height to make an accurate recommendation.

As a heavier sleeper, you're going to need a tailored spring gauge that can accommodate you, ie firm to extra firm spring gauge. You're also going to need enough mattress upholstery so it doesn't simply compress within the first few months of using your new mattress.

We would advise you to rule out memory foam mattresses which is notorious for sagging and compressing quickly especially with heavier sleepers.

Origins Pocket 1500 in a 2000 Spring Tension

Have a look at our Origins Pocket 1500 mattress in a 2000 pocket (firm) spring tension as a starting point, this will give a medium feel especially if you're a side sleeper.

Artisan Naturals Mattress in a Firm Spring Tension

If you want a natural fibre mattress which is cooler and uses a calico encased vanadium coated pocket spring then look at our best selling Artisan Natural mattress in a firm spring tension which is suitable for your body weight. It will give a medium feel.

Both these mattresses are two-sided and need turning and rotating each month.

Zip and Link Options

For both a king-size and super king-size model we would always recommend looking at a zip and link configuration. This makes turning the mattresses far easier each month. As our mattress models contain significantly higher amounts (GSM's ) of fillings in them they are heavy. Have a look at our mattress and bed size guide to get the weight of these models.

Zip and link mattresses also offer more stability for heavier sleepers, especially in a super king-size model. This is because in such a large size mattress the zip and link construction offers more robust support over time with the additional central support offered. We would never recommend a one-piece super kingsize for a heavier sleeper.

Have a look at the above two models and please let us know if you have any further questions. Our small expert team are available to advise further on 0161 437 4419 or info@localhost

All the best

John & Ryan
