Firmness of mattress

I have been looking to buy a new bed for ages but do not know what to buy. All seem comfortable in showrooms but am conscious that that may not be the case 3 weeks on!! I am only 6.5 stone in weight so don't really want anything too firm. I do find Premier Travel Inn beds very comfortable and have been tempted to purchase one from Hypnos, but, again, I am not sure. My husband is double my weight and is happy with our current bed (he too finds the Premier Inn bed comfortable). We currently alternate between two beds - one has a Dreams Kendall mattress (medium comfort grade, 800 pocket spring, no turn memory foam) and the other is a Sleepmasters Sensaform caress (easy care, pocket sprung, memory foam). I have 2 toppers on each mattress but find neither comfortable after about 3 nights. I have been looking at you Origins Comfort 1000 but some advice would be really useful. Many thanks

Hi Coralie,

The first thing I would say is that with such a weight differential, you ought to be looking at a split tension mattress, soft for you and medium for your husband.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

I understand that Premier Inns now have Hypnos beds, although there are no published details of the construction and upholstery.

The Origins Comfort 1000 is the softest mattress in our Origins range and will not, in my view, be suitable for your husband.

I would not advocate using a topper until you have used a new mattress for at least 14 days to see if the comfort level is sufficient without the addition of the topper.

We can only supply a split tension mattress in our Artisan range, although as these are naturally upholstered, they attract a higher retail price.

I would suggest that you call our office and seek some further advice and guidance as to the most appropriate product in our Artisan range.

I trust that this helps,

Kind Regards Gary
