Hi, we are looking at changing our mattress, and the choice is bewildering! We currently have a Sealy posturpedic pillowtop (it actually has a pillow on both sides, so can be turned over) on a divan base, which we bought in the USA 18 years ago! It is Dtill fine, but we are conscious that we should look at changing after all that time. Our concern is that we may spend a lot of money and end up with a less comfortable mattress! We both want pocket spring, not memory foam. We recently tried (in store) a Staples pure indulgence mattress in Bensons and loved the feel of it (firmness level 3). Based on your review, what is your equivalent mattress? And can we try it out anywhere? I can’t imagine spending hundreds of pounds on a mattress I have not even tried! Thanks in advance for any advice you can give us!

Hi Sue,

Thanks for your question.

We would always advise to steer clear of pillowtop mattresses for the reason they are predominantly one sided and once the fabric compresses there is nothing that can be done to salvage the mattress. I have never actually heard of a 2-sided pillowtop mattress. As such we don't retail any mattress close to this.

I'd advise here that if there is nothing wrong with the current mattress there is no need to replace it simply because it's 18 years old.

Given what limited information I can find about the Pure Indulgence, I'd advise it's close to a medium feeling model with ourselves.

Have a look at the Artisan Naturals. This is a true medium feeling model in the top layers providing a slight sink but not too much. This mattress is constructed with 85% natural fillings, which will provide a cool sleep surface.

We are an online only retailer so have no showroom of our own but the Naturals does compare in feel to the Vi-Spring Regal Superb, which can be found and tested in stores like Furniture Village, House of Fraser, Harrods or And So To Bed.

We would need to know your body weights in order to discuss suitable spring tension;

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
