Thank you for your enquiry.  It would appear that your current mattress is too firm for you. As a side sleeper, anything that is firm in the upholstery is going to cause pressure pains in your shoulders, hips or knees. If you are looking for a mattress that you can sink into, our softest natural fibre mattress is the Artisan Luxury but if your comfort preference is something that has a slight sink but not too much I would recommend anything between the Artisan Luxury and the Artisan Naturals on the comfort chart.

At your height and weight you are borderline between the medium and firm spring tensions, this means that you would get support from either depending on your personal preference.

With your new base, you would need to know the weight the gas struts can lift as our mattresses do tend to be quite heavy, with the weight of a King Size mattress ranging from 50 kg to 70 kg.  If the slats on the base are less than 3 inches apart we would recommend placing an old or cheap duvet on the slats to protect the underside of the mattress from indentations. If the space between the slats is more than 3 inches we would recommend boarding them over with MDF or Plywood to give the mattress a uniform surface.  Any mattress you choose from our Artisan range is going to feel firmer than described as they are designed for a pocket sprung base which softens the overall feel of a mattress.
