Best mattress to replace Dormeo Hybrid mattress
Hello
I have been browsing your website for a while and am really keen to get ordered before the end of January. I would just like a bit of advice to ensure I have picked the right mattress. Whilst it is at the very top end of my budget, I keep coming back to the John Ryan Express. So, about our needs!
Our current mattress at home is a Dormeo hybrid, and I hate it. I hate feeling "stuck" when I try to roll over, and it is also a bit warm, currently use a wool topper which alleviates this a little. In our second home in France we have Ikea mattresses, near the top of the range I think (we didn't buy them) and very comfortable, but I understand that they are no longer made to the same standard.
At the minute we are both quite heavy, around 15 stone, but are losing weight.
I wake often in the night, sometimes taking a while to get back to sleep as I can't find a comfy spot, the mattress can feel a bit "ridgy" in the middle.
I sleep either on my front or side, husband on his side or back. I wake up feeling generally stiff, and sometimes have back issues. Husband doesn't - he says he goes to bed feeling stiff and wakes up less so!! We don't like sleeping close together!
I would like a mattress that is made of as much natural material as possible, but we would really like to stick around the £1000 mark, less if at all possible! Due to your 60 day return guarantee we don't have a problem going for one of your previously returned mattresses.
Look forward to hearing from you, and to a better night's sleep!
Thanks
Lynne
Hi Lynne,
Thank you for your question. Your Dormeo Hybrid mattress is memory foam which is very heat retentive. It requires body heat as well as pressure to be able to mould to you but the heat does not dissipate and is retained within the mattress. The warmer the mattress gets the softer it will feel. It also has a slow return rate which can make turning over in the night quite difficult.
Latex is more responsive than memory foam and does not require body heat to mould to you which makes this a more breathable material to sleep on. The only mattress we have in our range that will provide a flat sleep surface and the moulding sensation you are used to is the Origins Pocket Latex 1500. As latex requires pressure to be able to mould to you, at your body weights, the mattress would provide an overall medium feel.
The John Ryan Express mattress is a two sided mattress that was designed to bridge the two ranges as it has more natural fibres than the Origins range but not as many as the Artisan range. This mattress is available in both a medium level of comfort and a firm level of comfort, both with medium spring tension for support, in kingsize and double. The medium spring tension supports body weights up to 17 stone depending on your height. I would recommend the medium level of comfort given your sleep positions, as this is not too firm when sleeping on your side nor too soft if you go on your front or back.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
We have found that customers who are used to the flat sleep surface of memory foam and latex mattresses can sometimes have difficulty adjusting to the tufted areas of a traditional mattress. If you find that you are sensitive to these areas, adding a mattress topper, such as your wool one, can help to even out the sleep surface whilst the upholstery layers are settling.
All mattresses will settle where you lie the most. When a mattress is constructed, all the upholstery is completely flat until the piping is added and the tufting is done. It is this that creates the domed area and gives it a firmer than described feel. It takes you sleeping and moving around on the mattress to soften and flatten these comfort layers back down. As we are creatures of habit, we tend to sleep in the same position night after night which settles the upholstery layers in this area. However, it leaves the surrounding areas like new and still domed which then looks as if the mattress has sagged where you are sleeping and a 'ridge' down the centre of larger mattresses as no one sleeps in the middle. We recommend utilising the whole of the sleep surface and sitting in the middle if you are reading or watching TV in bed on your own. Doing this along with regularly turning the mattress over will even out the settlement of the upholstery layers.
All of our Clearance mattresses have been returned to us under the 60 day love it or return it guarantee. These are inspected and graded according to condition. Most of the mattresses returned to us are grade B, which means there may be a few marks or scuffs on the side from transit and courier handling. Grade B's are discounted by 20%. A grade C mattress may have a few marks or scuffs and possibly a small tear. Grade C's are discounted by 40%. There would be nothing that would be detrimental to the lifespan or comfort of the mattress and any marks or even a tear would only be cosmetic. These mattresses are also covered by the 60 day love it or return it guarantee. Unfortunately, we do not have any John Ryan Express mattresses in our clearance at this time.
I hope this helps and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards
Michaela
