Desperate for a comfortable mattress!

Sleepless

Please help!
My old mattress had died, after 10+ years, and I needed to replace it. I foolishly went to Benson's For Beds, and was advised that a firm tension pillow top was ideal for my needs. I'm 8st 7lbs and sleep alone, a side sleeper. After a couple of weeks on this pillow topped brick, I was in agony and had shooting pains throughout my hip and shoulder. I cut my losses and sold it on eBay for a massive loss, now I have a 2000 pocket sprung mattress from Next, in a medium tension. After just over a week, there's a big dip in the middle (where I sleep), and the tufts are digging into me so much, it's like someone is stabbing me with 100 screwdrivers every night. I've had to cover each up with a cotton wool pad and gaffer tape!
I'm so upset and desperately need the perfect mattress. I had insomnia for two years, caused by PTSD, so I'm aware that I'm probably a lot more bed-sensitive than most people.
In the past I've tried a memory foam (with cooling gel layer) mattress, and found it far too hot, I kept waking up in pools of sweat!
I've tried a Vispring in John Lewis and a soft tension seems about right, I'm just so scared of wasting more money if it still isn't right. Please please help... I need a mattress that doesn't make me sweat, is soft but still supportive, not firm like sleeping on a brick, and doesn't have screwdriver stabbing tufts!
Ideally I need one ASAP.

Yours, desperately...

Hi,

Thank you for your question.

Due to the problems you have been encountering with other mattresses and due to the fact that you are sensitive to the tufts on a traditional pocket sprung mattress, the only mattresses that you are going to be able to sleep on are unfortunately made of either foam or latex. This is due to the fact that these types of mattresses do not have tufts but as you are a hot sleeper, you would be better with a Latex mattress that is 100% natural.

At your body weight, and the fact that you are a side sleeper, you should not sleep on anything that is too firm in the top layers otherwise as you have experienced, this will create pressure point pain in shoulders hips and knees.  You do however require a medium support.

Our Fusion range of mattresses are made of 100% natural Latex however they are firm mattresses and therefore would not be suitable for your needs.   We do have our Artisan Latex mattress which would give you an overall medium comfort and support, however, this mattress does have tufts due to the fact that it also contains other natural fibres contained within the mattress.

As you are a hot sleeper, you do require a mattress that contains natural fillings and the more natural fillings in a mattress, the cooler the sleeping surface.  Our Artisan range of mattresses do contain natural fillings and our Artisan Luxury is the softest mattress that we make in the top layers and can be made with a medium spring tension.  However this is a tufted mattress and the only way around this would be to add a mattress topper that again is not tufted.

It may be of benefit for you to telephone our office on 0161 437 4419 where we would be able to give you more advice/information on our products.

Kind regards Julie
