Tempur mattress too warm and different weighted sleepers!

Dear John Ryan - I am at work when your lines are open so I can never call to speak hence the email.
My questions are about getting the right bed for myself and my partner. He is much bigger and heavier than I am, wakes up a lot and twitches in the night - I am a very light sleeper so his movement wakes me up. I currently have a Tempur mattress on a storage bed base which has slats (whether that's good or bad I don't know) - there is too much movement transference, it's a bit small as it's not king size - I think large double? We both find the Tempur hot, I like the sinking feeling it has and that it moulds to my shape - when I first got a tempur, it was a revelation for me and improved my sleep but getting too hot is an issue.
I am thinking what would be best is getting a king size, zip and link bed with a topper so that we don't feel separated but sleep well on our own sides. Would that be a latex mattress that's best for me or a hybrid? My partner prefers a mattress with some bounce - he says he is not really that bothered although he does get very hot but I need minimal movement transference. What would be best for him and what combinations can be put side by side? For the new bed, we need a base with storage and also a headboard to stop us losing the pillows.
What would you recommend?
Thanks

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for getting in touch. Ideally, we need to know both of your weights to advise correctly but we can make some assumptions to help you.

If your partner is over 18 stone it maybe worth while reading the response to this comment here.

If you're both under 18 stone then a zip and link mattress would be a good idea to help reduce transference, ie movement when one sleeper moves about affecting the other sleeper. The two options you have are as follows.

  1. We would recommend maybe looking at one of our zip and link options then matched with one of our latex toppers. Such as an Artisan 1500 mattress, spring tension dependent on your body weights and the 100% natural latex topper. This will give you that softer feel in the top layer like a Tempur mattress but without the heat-retention that is bothering you so much. memory foam and Tempur are renowned for being very warm due to the heat retention of these materials.
  2. You could go for a Fusion 100% natural solid core latex mattress. Far cooler than memory foam and two sided, meaning you can turn it. We don't do this in a zip and link but latex has far less transference than other memory foam and cheaper cage sprung mattress models. (We don't sell any cage sprung mattresses, read more on that here!

You could then pair this with either an Ottoman base, with bags of storage or a divan base with drawers. Each can be matched with one of our headboards too. Please get back in touch on info@localhost with your weights heights and mattress tension preferences which should help us narrow down your search further!

We look forward to hearing back from you Sarah in due course.

Kind regards Julie
