Which JRBD mattress is right for me?
We’re two blokes, both 100kilos and 6ft3. We’re due a new mattress, we’ve had a pocket sprung mattress with a built in memory foam topper. It’s firm with the nice feeling of memory foam. We’ve had it 8 years and it needs replacing, we’ve decided to go for a super king size and buy a bed frame
The issue is, how do we know we’re going to be happy with a mattress without trying it in a store? We like the idea of a bespoke mattress, we enjoy a high bed and an initially firm feeling with the luxury of memory foam. A permanent topper loses shape at the sides after a while making the sheets saggy in the middle.
Advice on your products is welcome
Hi Ian,
Thank you for your question.
If you are looking at sticking with a traditional pocket sprung mattress then at your body weights you are matched with a Medium spring tension. Please see below for a bit more information on our weight and spring tension guidelines;
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
Once the spring tension is determined you can ignore that and then move on to how you want the mattress to feel in the top layers. We don't construct any memory foam mattresses nor do we have any pocket sprung mattress constructed with an in-built foam layer.
Our Artisan range is a range of pocket sprung mattresses with natural fillings. These natural fillings give a cool sleep surface so anyone who suffers with heat issues during sleep needs to be looking within this range.
In regards to being unable to test our own products, this is the main driving force we offer our 60 day love it or return it guarantee; This is a no quibble policy meaning you can send the item back for a refund or utilise the one time exchange.
Whilst we don't have a showroom of our own we do have some comparison models that can be found in stores such as Furniture Village, Harrods, House of Fraser or And So To Bed.
Our Artisan Bespoke is our firmest model in the top layers, having no sort of sink in sensation and compares with the Vi-Spring Herald.
Our Artisan Naturals is our true medium in the top layers, being not too soft nor too firm and providing a slight sink but not too much. This model compares with the Vi-Spring Regal Superb.
Our Artisan Luxury is our softest model in the top layers giving a luxurious sink in sensation. This model compares with the Vi-Spring Devonshire. These 3 models at least give you something to compare with to get an indication of which way you want to go.
The base the mattress is going on to can make a difference so if you have either a solid top base or slatted base then ask the showroom to place the mattress onto the floor as this will emulate that base. Most showroom bases are sprung so give the mattress a softer feel.
Alternatively, those stores will also house the Tempur range; This range compares with our own Hybrid range. This range is full foam that will give a similar sort of sensation to memory foam but without the heat issues associated. It might be worth testing these as this will give you an indication of whether you want to go for full foam or not.
I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries then please don't hesitate to contact me on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards, Lee.
