Mattress recommendations from JRBD
Hi, We have an old Sealy mirror form from back in action which we need to replace. I am 9 or 9.5 stone, sleep on my side (sometimes find I am asleep on my back) and need good alignment (I guess) but also pressure relief. I can get pain in my sacro illiac joint and my shoulder on a standard mattress. The mirror form has generally been very good. It can be a bit warm. The support and pressure relief have been great. But the support has collapsed now - 11years old. Any advice or recommendations would be much appreciated. Kind regards, Jayne
Hi Jayne,
Thanks for your question.
At your body weight and given that you make reference to support quite a few times I'd advise a Medium spring tension is the right way to go;
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
Given that you also mention "we", I'd need to know the body weights of anyone else using the mattress to advise correctly.
If there are heat issues of any kind during sleep then I'd advise you look at our Artisan range of mattresses. These are traditional pocket sprung mattresses constructed with natural fillings and those fillings give a cool sleep surface.
We wouldn't really describe a pocket sprung mattress as giving pressure relief but the Artisan Luxury is our softest mattress in the top layers providing that luxurious sink in sensation.
Side sleepers need to avoid anything too firm in the top layers otherwise it will cause pressure point pains in places such as shoulders, hips and knees. The Luxury being the softest mattress we retail should therefore be absolutely fine.
We'd advise that Foam or Latex are more suited for pressure relief; Both of these will give a very similar sort of sink in sensation to memory foam but without the heat issues associated.
Our Hybrid range is Foam and our Fusion range is 100% natural latex. Please note that we aren't currently retailing these brand new for at least 16 weeks as we can't source the same quality of material. As such, the only way to purchase these at present is through our Outlet or eBay store.
The base that the mattress goes on to can make a difference to the feel as well; A solid top base will give the mattress a slightly firmer feel, a slatted base will do the same thing here. A pocket sprung base will give the mattress a slightly softer feel overall as it softens the spring tension down.
I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards, Lee.
