Bed on a slope advice - which is the best mattress for nighttime acid reflux?

Hi,

I am very interested in your Bespoke mattresses.

I have been sleeping on a slope for near 20 years, as a solution to night-time acid reflux. The headboard end is approx 6 inches higher than the bottom end.

How will your pocket sprung range cope with that? I was thinking of the Bespoke 002 - sublime end of your hand made mattress range. We are looking for a softer feel. The medium on your chart fits our size. If it just requires extra reinforcement, then perhaps we can talk about that?

Thanks for your help,
Ian

Hi Ian,

Many thanks for your question about having a mattress/bed on a slope. It's a really interesting one as we have never been asked before!

We've all had a chat in the office and can't see any issue with the mattress being on a 6inch slope providing it is on a sound mattress base and you turn it monthly as per our mattress care and settlement guide.

Solid Bed Base Advice

A sound mattress and bed base should be solid, have no gaps or protruding screws and be stable enough to take the weight of our heavy hand made mattresses. They are considerably heavy than retail alternatives as there is significantly more upholstery contained within them which in turn makes them last far longer whilst offering world-class bedtime comfort.

If it's a slatted mattress base you may want to read our advice here on how to ensure it doesn't damage the mattress.
It's really interesting that having your head raised at night has helped with acid reflux we will keep this in mind when advising other sleepers suffering from this.

As for reinforcement of the mattresses this should be necessary. If its looked after on a suitable base and turned we can't see any issue with this raising of the head end. Obviously this is based on our experience and mattress making expertise but we have never had anyone want to do this before!

Choosing the best mattress

The next steps are for you to choose the correct spring tension based on your body weight/height and then select the comfort feel you want from the mattress. Ie soft, medium or firm. This comfort is always provided by the upholstery layers and not (as many retailers will try and tell you) the spring unit.

The Artisan Sublime mattress is our softest dual layer pocket sprung mattress.

The Artisan Bespoke 003 mattress is a more medium feel dual pocket sprung mattress.

Lastly, the Artisan Bespoke 002 is a firmer medium mattress when compared to the other two as it uses Blended Fleece Wool and Cotton in the very top layer compared to the supremely softer and more breathable Alpaca/Bamboo natural fibre in the other two models above.

If you need more help Ian please feel free to give us a call on 0161 437 4419 where we can offer more tailored advice on the mattress models above.

Sleep well.
