Which kind of mattress

A customer asked

I have had my Millbrook pocket sprung King Size soft divan (with summer and winter sides) for 10 years but it has always been too soft. I do like a mattress that is not too firm, otherwise I find I am stiff and achy, and used to have a medium/soft. However, This is far too soft and I have back ache every morning, and have started not being able to straighten up when I get out of bed, and have back ache all day. I also can't sit up in bed because it sags too much, and this has always been the case with this bed, not just now. I find that the buttons holding the springs down also dig into me even with a padded mattress protector, and I spend the night tossing and turning to avoid the buttons. I have had other mattresses where I can feel the buttons, and so I am therefore reluctant to buy another sprung mattress. However, I tried a memory foam topper and was far too hot. I really would appreciate your advice as to what I should buy. I am a female, weighing approximately 15 tone, and a side sleeper and sometimes on my back. (I sleep on my own) Also, is it ok to buy just a mattress or do I need a complete new bed?

Hi k.tugwell,

Thank you for your questions.

Anyone who does have existing aches and pains does need to avoid anything too firm in the upholstery as it will only make those pains worse.

Our pocket sprung mattresses have tufts on top as these are required to hold the fillings in place inside. However, they aren't as harsh feeling as buttons would feel.

With that in mind I would guide you to our Hybrid or Latex ranges. Both have a similar sink in sensation to memory foam but latex is generally a firmer feeling material and as such as I would always recommend testing it first. The Latex range compares with Dunlopillo that can be tested in any Furniture Village, Harrods, House of Fraser or And So To Bed store.

We would need to know how you prefer the mattress to feel as all the models available will feel very different.

There is also no need to purchase a new base unless the existing one is really worn or damaged.

Our Hybrid and Latex mattresses do need to go on to a solid top base though because the materials will attempt to settle in any gaps on a slatted base.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries then please don't hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
