The first thing to say is that, with your particular body weight, you fall within the medium spring tension bracket and we have attached an article here explaining this in more detail. This does not, however take into account the weight of your child, who should not be sleeping on a firm mattress.The reason for your current back pain could be the firmness of your current mattress, which would further suggest that you need to be looking at the most appropriate spring tension for your body weights. as referred to herein.

All of our mattresses can be used on your current sprung slatted ottoman base, however, we would recommend placing some form of barrier, usually in the form of thin (3-5mm) MDF over the slats. This will provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit and prevent ridging occurring as a result of the mattress dipping into the gaps between the slats.

Please view the Origins Pocket 1500, which will provide you both with an overall medium feel. If, however, your budget permits, please view the Artisan Naturals, Artisan Bespoke 004 or the Artisan Bespoke, all of which can have the spring tension selected as required. The Artisan Naturals has 85% natural upholstery and the 004 has 100%. The Bespoke has more upholstery, but provides a firmer overall feel in the comfort layers.
