Type of mattress suitable for slatted base

Ian Patterson asked

Hi,
I am 6′ and 13 stone, my wife is 11 stone. We are both side sleepers
Our current mattress is of medium firmness and we have an iron framed bed with a slatted wooden base.
Can you give me any guidance on which of your mattresses you feel would be suitable for us.

Hi Ian,

With your particular body weights, a medium tension/feel is the most appropriate. I note that you have not provided details of your budget so will provide reference to a number of products in our ranges.

The first one to look at is the Origins Pocket 1500, which has synthetic upholstery, comes with a standard medium feel and is able to be used on your slatted base.

Alternatively, if your budget permits, please view the Artisan Naturals, Artisan Bespoke 004 and Artisan Bespoke, all of which can have the spring tension selected as medium, all of which contain natural upholstery layers and can also be used on your slatted base.

A word of note when using your slatted base, I would recommend placing a barrier, usually in the form of thin (3-5mm) MDF over the slats to provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit and prevent ridging occurring as a result of the mattress dipping into the gaps between the slats.

Please note this will make any mattress placed on it feel ever so slightly firmer.

I trust that the above helps, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office.

Kind Regards Gary
